I think alot of people will be disappointed when it comes out. I think it will mostly apply to the USCG L.E. tactical community.

Once the approval is announced how long will this process actually take? Will it ramp up just like the IS rate did?

Talking with some instructors at the MLEA, it seems to me that you're right. I think alot of people are thinking that the LE rate would be like a rate for BOs. The MLEA instructors told me that the LE rated person would handle all the LE stuff that the rest of us are doing as collaterals now. Essentially, all of us that are BOs/BTMs now would keep doing boardings, but the LE back at the unit would be handling all the paperwork. Sounded to me like they're going to be the SKs/YNs of the LE world.

I'm at BO school right now, and the CO is on the LETSGO team. He passed to the instructors some info about their recent meeting last week (he also said there IS an alcoast coming out).

You can take the following with a grain of salt, but this was what was passed to us by the MLEA instructors.

The ES (Enforcement Specialist) rating is approved, and they have senior enlisted personnel working on the practical factors for it. They are looking at around 250 billets right now (working with BM, MK, and GM rating force Master Chiefs and Detailers).

They are trying to get the "A" school for it to be here in Charleston at MLEA. It is 99% sure the A school is going to be here.

As of FY10, there will be no more BO PQS... (In other words, you will HAVE to come through MLEA to get BO qualified, hands down). Anyone before FY10 with a PQS BO qual (OPSBO competency code) will be grandfathered in after FY10, but as of FY10 there will only be a BTM pqs (which is in the process of being revised).

Thats all I got to pass. Please don't ask me for anything in writing, as the alcoast is coming out soon. I am just passing what we've been passed from a member of the LETSGO board committee.

I just found this link on another CG forum, and thought I'd share it. Appears that the New LE/S Rate is approved and going to happen but it could take up to 24 months to get all the details worked out.

Bump... I left the Coast Guard to join the Air National Guard, I was tired of doing absolutely nothing at my reserve unit, if this rate actually happens it would be a dream come true and I would consider coming back to be a part of it. I have come in contact with a number of current and former Coasties who have or will separate because the LE mission is few and far between, many people have a passion for LE and this rate will be a way to keep them around. I will be watching closely.
