The Michigan State Police announced that it anticipates running a new recruit school starting this fall. Recruiting efforts are already underway for the 121st Trooper Recruit School. The school will add 100 new Troopers to the MSP.
Actually the MSP is a full service state police and not a highway patrol. I've heard the Troopers called Ramp Roosters in the metro areas. The State of Michigan is in financial hard times like every other state, but the state is also down over 350 Troopers. Good to see law enforcement being one of the top priorities with violent crimes on the rise.

Yes they are, They are very, very short right now with many retirements over the past few years. I work with them often and have not heard that they were going to have a class. I asked a Trooper 2 says ago and he was not sure. That is not surprising though. They get told things after the fact. If I hear something diferrent I will post it here. regards.
It seems nobody was told anything about the new school because the Governor wanted to make the announcement during her state of the state address. Even the MSP recruiters weren't told. Now they're scrambling to find qualified candidates. All the talk of Trooper layoffs and not running a school in 4 years has led to nobody applying in the past year.
Talking with a recruiter yesterday, they are now getting calls all day, but are they just one of the many people unemployed in the state or are they really interested in law enforcement.
Things are also picking up for the Kent County Sheriff's Department. They also announced several deputy positions and correction officer jobs. Their starting pay is higher than the MSP, so there are several LE opportunities on the west side of Michigan.
I have noticed that the West side of the state has had more open positions. Many departments on the east side have now got a contract signed or soon to get one. THere will be some opening here soon also. Macomb and Wayne just got a contract (within the last 6 months) Oakland I hear is still in the works. All three counties have went 3-4 years without a contract.
The only good thing going on is MI is that if you have a secure job you can pick up a cheap home!
