Just wanted to pass on that ATF has current openings through December 31, 2008, for Special Agents.
The announcement does not require a college degree. This can be substituted with qualifying work experience. Below is the site: http://jobsearch.usajobs.gov/getjob.asp?JobID=76359395&...d=3876&ss=0&FedPub=Y GOOD LUCK!!! |

So, did any Coasties look into this? I figured some GM's would be interested.
Just wondering. Don |

Several Coasties have applied. The ATF app process is a very long one. It can take as long as 3 years from date of application to hire.
We'll see how it goes. |

Wow...three years? I wonder what takes ATF so long compared to the other Federal Agencies?
Best of luck to those who applied. Stay safe, Don |

On the average, a job application may take 1 to 1 1/2 years, I beleive that is a more realistic estimate. ATF is putting on 3-4 academies this year, and this is a trend that will continue for the next years. So far, close to 5000 applications received. Being a veteran and claiming that preference puts you in a different category.
Violent crimes, with firearms, explosives and arson are a huge aspect of the job of an ATF Special Agent. There is a lot of diversity in invetigations, which makes it more appealing to various individuals. If there are any questions, feel free to send me your e-mail, I will gladly help any way possible. There are several former Coasties in ATF, and by far, they are really squared away. Good Luck |

Some of these Coasties may want to know...Does the ATF have offices in most of the States? Do they have a fairly good chance of being assigned to an office that is in a state where they want to live? Obviously it all is based on where the vacancies are. Just to add, I've always had a high respect for the work you folks in the ATF do. Don |

Yes, ATF has offices in every state.
You can see where the offices are here: "www.atf.gov/field/index.htm" Go to that webpage, and you can see a map of where the various field division are, and below the map are links to each divison which will have info on where each office in that division is located. |

Also:
During the application process, you will be asked to list five locations, in order of preference, ATF will do there best to get you to one of those locations, I have yet to meet someone that has not gotten one of those five locations. Before you go to the academy, you will know where you will be stationed at. |
