Dragnet
Bakersfield PD
The Job
The Wire
Hill Street Blues

Those are just a few...

In my opinion, if you want a pretty good idea of what it's like to be a Federal Agent, watch that show, "Without a Trace".

Obviously not so much towards the CBP or BP but as far as agents working investigations, I find that show pretty accurate.

We regularly watch First 48. I like the seeing the interviews as each investigator has a different style with different results.

Another good "old school" cop show is O'Hara, U.S. Treasury produced by Jack Webb. It only lasted one season but still does a good job of portraying federal criminal investigations.

I have watched most and I would say DEA is the most exciting.

I also like the SWAT shows.

Did ya know that Lt. Dangle was in the Coast Guard. In the episode about him having a long lost son he thought it happened while he station somewhere in the Coast Guard.

Great. The inept, wimpy and flamoyantly homosexual LT Dangle is yet another CG punchline.

Much of the public believes the CG is not a military service. It's crap like that which furthers that belief. The line about "being safe and joining the Coast Guard" in Navy Seals ****es me off. The CG reference in Tropic Thunder (a poser who fakes being in vietnam, only to say that he was in the CG, "sanitation division") ****es me off. There are other slams on the CG out there in film and TV.

Its one thing for people in the military to insult the other branches. I can handle being called a puddle pirate by a squid or a jarhead. But when some civilian puke comedy writer makes the CG out to be a bunch of punk ass *****es, I get upset.

At the end of the day, its our own fault though. We don't inform the public enough about what we do. We pushed away any semblance of our warrior spirit post vietnam. And in my opinion, we've adopted too many janitorial and administrative functions, and haven't invested enough in Defense, LE and SAR.

Guess I need to get crackin on that movie i've been dreaming of. Aviation is great, but....

Nothing beats a good midnight 1MC pipe, boat chase or search for stowaways on an 800ft tanker after being fast rope from a couple of helo's or the good ole DOD escort with an over the shoulder shot of a Boomer Sub CO remarking to his XO about how those coast guard folks are always at the ready and on scene every single time we scan the periscope before we surface for our inbound transit.

I've already got the title and opening scene in my head and "approved" by my wife!
Ohhh its nice too.

Anyone ever notice the USCG Jay Hawk model behind the desk of the LT on the show, "The Shield"?

No....but I did notice that the NW Territorial Mint is selling USCG HH-60 Jayhawk challenge coins in antique brass for 10 bucks.

..and I still like "Dexter" as my favourite "cop?" tv show. Nothing like reality, of course. At least I hope not. I just like Dexter handing the perps what is really due them.

"Numb3rs" on Cbs does a really good job of showing what its like to be an agent from the field work to the political mumbo jumbo. and they incorporate other agencies as well including the CG. But its mainly FBI.
