I think I read the COMDT talk about this in the transcripts from one of his speeches. The question was posed to him as to why the CG was not more involved in the anti-piracy efforts off of Africa. I believe his response was the Navy had not requested our assistance.

I saw the same thing, but with the new events, it woill be interesting to see what we could bring to the fight. Wishful thinking though.

While I believe fighting off pirates sounds fun, we need to stick to the homeland. Yet another thing we will get involved in that will detract from out missions at home. I think under the current president we might keep our little butts closer to home since we are not likely to get more funding in the future.

Nothing that the Navy can't bring. Plus we should probably try to keep those 40+ year old cutters from getting stressed even more then they already are.

The idea of getting involved certainly sounds good, but I doubt the CG will be tasked. Then again, if it is true that POTUS wanted the FBI in charge of the recent rescue bc he considered it a LE Op and not a military op, then maybe.... We all know that the CG does so well at tying its own hands that POTUS may prefer the CG approach to sniper fire?

He sent FBI to the scene because they have more hostage negotiating experience. At no point did he put them "in charge". All along he said it was a military op.
