Have you ever called for fire using Naval Guns, or called for fire support with fast movers, or blazed a target and had a super cobra dropping hot casings neck while lighting up the target like the 4th of July?

I'd like to know why a guy without a CAR and no campaign medals showing service in the last war we used NGFS is calling out anyone else asking for their experience...If there was a Super Cobra dropping hot casings it must have been in training not in combat.

Well, you've got me there. No I haven't gotten to that level. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn once. I can say that I am no Motyka. Big Grin

BTW, and I may be wrong. But you weren't an Army Ranger. You simply attended Ranger school and are Ranger qualified.

What is a HOG? Hmmmm....let me take a wild guess. Hunter of Gunmen?

A PIG is what potential snipers are called by their instructors.

A "hog's tooth" is the symbolical round that is worn by snipers under their shirt.

However, there are quite a few active "Snipers" in the Coast Guard, at least in the Green Guard. They are not billeted but the duty will be a colateral at units. They will likely be PS's, and the only time they will have a "chance" to work their magic is when they are deployed with/by a partial or full PSU. Those personnel who have the skill sets will have been itdentified by their commands.

I bet you'll also find them in the Blue Guard at the various teams that are established or will soon be established. They may have PC friendly names, and be LE trained, but they are still filling the position.

I don't care what color Coast Guard you are in, The ONLY way you rate to call yourself a "SNIPER" is if you have gone through one of three locations for USMC Siper school. 1. Quantico, VA , 2. Okinawa, Japan , 3. Camp Pendelton, CA.
I don't care if you have been to MSRT, some 8 week FBI course. You may be holding a Designated Marksman, or Sharpshooter billet at your PSU. Really let's not fool ourselves and try to pass yourself off as a Bonafide, Hair-splitting, Card carrying 8541 MOS.
There is NO ONE is the USCG, unless they were prior service Marines or USMC-trained ARMY, that rates the title of "SNIPER". You would, however, rate the name and rank of poser, and wannabe.
You guys out there posing probably have no clue about field craft, what color is a taboo to wear and why? Give you a hint (NVG's), what MOA is?, defelade, contrasting background?, what is the measurement of a "click"? What is your running, walking, loaded, nighttime running, nighttime walking pacecount? Have you ever called for fire using Naval Guns, or called for fire support with fast movers, or blazed a target and had a super cobra dropping hot casings neck while lighting up the target like the 4th of July?
What is a PIG, HOG, and a RAZORBACK? What is a HOG's, and a RAZORBACK's tooth?
Any PSU/GM/MSST or whatever trying to pass themselves off as this better pray I never see them in the fleet trying to talk the talk, and never have walked the walk, because I will embarass the H#LL out you.
It is much the same as tryng to pass yourself off as a USCG Diver, and never been to Navy Dive School, because you are in the USCG and are PADI certified. You are a "NO GO" at this station Ranger.
Which YES, I just so happen to be a USMC Sniper ('92-'96), USCG Diver (present), and Army Ranger (school '94). If you took offense to this than you might need to do some soul searching or SACK up and transfer to the Dept. of Defense. This is merely the criteria for the title. Not directed at anyone in particular, Just meant to educate those misguided ones.

I think the point of "Lighten Up FRANCIS" has been made. You are taking comments made on this board a little bit too literally. Everyone is proud of their accomplishments and what they do or have done for their country.

Is the word "sniper" somehow statutorily protected? Like the term "Certified Public Accountant", or maybe "Certified Safety Professional"? Or is just another term? How would the Marines have the wherewithal to claim exclusivity of the term? Doesn't perhaps the FBI's HRT have some pretty good sniper types? Or MOSSAD, who just proved their mettle by knocking off the Hezbollah Imad Mughniyeh? Aren't they snipers?

I would venture to say that Commandant Allen has the authority to dictate who may act in a sniper capacity within the Coast Guard, and that this authority has been delegated to any number of the big DOG nuts ...

Funny how guys who claim to be on the tip of the spear in protecting our freedoms are always busy telling us just what we can and cannot do.

Cajun,

Read the thread. Those comments were made by CGDiverDC, not me. I responded and had his rant in my post. I was actually trying to impress upon him that neither he nor the USMC has a monopoly on snipers.

There are federal law enforcement agencies who have snipers. Snipers are not limited to just the Department of Defense.

Maybe you're not a sniper unless you've ever been a game warden in the Scottish highlands. Where it started. By the guys who invented ghillie suits. Guys called Ghillies. Maybe then you're a sniper. I think. But I don't know. Could be. Man, I watch way too much History Channel.

So give us some love; what's it feel like to shoot that damn Barrett? Seems like a whale of a lot of fun ... I'd probably spot my pants just locking the breech ...

The Barrett is awesome. I went to the Armorer Course in August and we got to shoot it on the 300 meter range for a fam fire. The first time I shot it was at some trials at Ft. Benning, GA in 1991. Needless to say I got instant wood.
