I have a question. Myself and two others from my reserve unit have been cross leveled into another unit. The unit is scheduled to deploy in the spring. We live in Minnesota and the new unit is in Texas. My orders say I am officially transfered in mid August. We have already been "administratively transfered". My current unit no longer has us on the books and the new unit is supposed to take care of pay and etc... The new unit wants us to start drilling in Texas in October. They don't think they will have to pay for travel. My question is: can they expect us to travel across the country to drill and have us cover the cost when we were cross leveled? We can't get anyone from the new unit to call back. We don't know what to do. I can't afford to travel to Texas four or five times not to mention taking time off from work for the travel. Thank you for the help.

If you chose the unit you have to pay for your travel if you were told you are going to this unit without a choice then they should pay for the travel. If the S-1 says no then go to the CDR and up the chain if need be but make sure you use the chain. It could take a little time but if you do it right you will get better results. The IG should be your absolute last resort.

You drill with your home unit until the receiving unit transports you prior to deployment.

I would hope they would. I knew guys that would drive 100+ miles to go to drill at my unit, I thought that was dedication. The idea of traveling 800+ miles, woof. That's pushing dedication.

I went through the exact same thing and the unit can pay for you to travel for drill weekends.

You'll probably spend a good amount of time on AT/ADT orders getting ready for your deployment.

Thanks for the help. My wife will feel better knowing I shouldn't have to pay for travel. I don't mind being on orders for the extra days. My work will be more understanding if I have orders. The boss was infantry in the 80's and that helps but I don't want to push my luck. The unit is by Dallas. I did my AIT at Fort Sam but I have never been to Dallas.

That's the correct answer. You'll do a 1380 for RST and continue drilling with your original unit until you deploy for pre-MOB training with the gaining unit just prior to actual MOB and deployment.

Good luck and stay safe.
