I am so glad to see something for Coast Guard spouses out here. I have been a coastie spouse for 16 1/2 years. Husband is currently deployed. So many people don't think the Coast Guard is ever away from home.

Been a coastie wife for about a year but we've been together for over 4.

I'm taking that leap and heading to boot in cape may soon. Want to be an MST and take college courses to be a vet tech and then work on my vet degree while in service. That way when we retire my MK can open his car restoration shop (old brittish cars) and I can open my animal shelter/vet clinic.

on a different note, i do have a vent. Is it me or is it just the norm for coastie wives to be more independant and calmer then the other services wives? I hear all the time living on an Army base that the Army wives cling together even if there SO's aren't deployed. I tend to be annoyed by the SO's that want to start clique's and go shopping together. But the hub says it's becuase my life revolves around the CG where the other wives want to escape it.

I love going to the sector with my hub, i take in cookies and the other guys teach me about being an MST and help me study up on stuff.

why work on your vet degree and juggle being a mst at the same time? why not just join the army and become an animal care specialist (68T)? they teach you a bunch of stuff. then you get to take all the ojt you learned and use it toward being a vet.

hello,
i was wondering if anyone could give me info as to what life is like as a coast guard wife. my hubby is going in enlisted in june, and hopes to become an AET. we already own a house in miami, and we have a soon to be 6 yr old daughter. im not scared about moving around, but i am scared as to what kind of work i will be able to get. im in the social service field and i do have my bachelors. i am concerned how it is going to affect our little one. his recruiter is not very informative...i know this will be a good move for him and i am supportive but im scared at the same time. any info is appreciated Wink
