So the debate has been held over and over again in my shop and I cannot find a reference to help me. We have all heard that if you have, win, or acquire to much money, you can seperate from the military. Whilst the reasoning seems sane, my question is, is it anywhere in writing?? What is the amount? How do I find the answer to this question??!!
I know if you get into too much debt you can be separated, but have never heard too much wealth. John F. Kennedy was a very wealthy man when he became a Naval Officer. Is this you can separate or you will be separated?
it's not really any where in writing. but we are talking Millions of dollars to have a remote chance.
it falls under the Convenience of the Military catch all clause. it may also be possible if say your father owns a business and becomes incapacitated and there is no one else who can step up and run things.

yup.
I know someone who got out under it. she recieved a HUGE settlement in a lawsuit. (like 30 million-its a sad story, really, as to where the money came from) and the Navy let her go.
It is considered a conflict of interest. If someone suddenly comes into a lot of money they have many personal items to attend to, and they can't dedicate themselves to their affairs and their duties. Also, other soldiers become resentful of their status. The Beneficiary themselves no longer have the time or the heart to be a full time soldier. The military allows them to get out of the military, but they aren't forced out. It is the same with family hardship cases. A soldier has to be able to focus on their job 100%.
