Hi all: My spouse (soon to be ex-spouse) is leaving the military soon. My spouse will have only served a total of about 4 years active duty (i.e., not even close to retirement). I know that this is a long-shot, but does anyone know of any way it might be possible to renew my military dependant ID after my spouse leaves the military and after the divorce becomes final? The local bases do not have commissaries, so my main reasons for wanting to retain base privileges are (1) for nostalgia's sake, (2) hoping to use the base bowling alley a few times a year (usually it's nearly empty when we come); and (3) taking my son and daughter to the base occasionally to remind them that they were once a military family. Has anyone heard of any instances where it might be possible to retain or renew a dependant ID card in a comparable situation? Thanks!

even if you remained married, you'd lose the ID once he was out. Only retirees and their dependents retain IDs. use pictures for the memories.

If he retired you would still have to have been 20 years during his time in service of at least 20 years to be eligble to retain your military ID card after you were divorced. But as he has only served 4 years he will get a different ID for Inactive Reserves but will be limited to what he can do, you will not get one. If you divorce and he is called back into service, joins the National Guard or Reserves the kids would get their own ID card as they would still be considered his dependents.

Items (1) and (3) can be accomplished without an ID card at many Army posts. Army posts seem to be extremely easy to get onto. You just need to give some kind of reason.

I have 2 dependents right now. I might have one on the way. Do they consider the unborn child a dependent? Will That disqualify me if I swear in next month?

It will depend on the branch, some might and others will not. This can require a waiver.
