He left Oct. 1, does anyone know when I will hear from him next? Does he get x number of phone calls during the 8-9 weeks that he's there? I still haven't gotten his address from his recruiter yet, is this normal? Thanks for the help!

you wont get his address from his recuriter, he will be making a phone call soon and will be able to give it to you.

and hw many phone calls during his time is asking how many grains of salt in a bag. they can loose their phone privileges if things go wrong, so write lots of letters once you get his address.

don't worry if you don't get tons of phone calls just be patient but he will get one soon to give you that hasty address so have a pen and paper by the phone or in your hand bag for when he does call

They often send a "form letter" with their info too. Sometimes they get to make a short "I got here fine" phone call as well.

Phone calls are earned. If someone screws up, the whole platoon can lose their phone privileges.

I agree you should send as many letters/cards as possible. It helps keep their spirits up during basic.

We got a postcard with my brother's address about a week and a half after he left. Then we didnt get the first phone call until his 3rd sunday there. He sounded great though and he is really making the most of it.

My husband left on Tuesday (the 6th) and I heard from him today - just for a few minutes, letting me know he's fine Smile I was surprised to get a call so soon!

Thanks so much guys, Sammy, yeah I got that first immediate phone call too right when he got there and then he said that I probably wouldn't hear from him over the phone for a few weeks. He's only been gone seven days and I already have this MASSIVE stack of letters to mail him, I'm just waiting for an address! I hope he mailed me last sunday and that maybe the letter will get here today if he did mail me, so that way I'll be able to mail him back. ctedesco, you said you got a postcard? That's actually relieving, because his recruiter is really dropping the ball on letting me know what is going on. I just don't want him to have to wait two weeks before he gets any letters at all, but I guess that might just have to happen until I either get a postcard or a phone call. Thanks for all the help! I did get a big box of all of his civilian clothing mailed back, but it was pretty anti climactic ... just a bunch of dirty clothes and candy wrappers in his pockets, haha

Yeah you said Basic....does that mean he is Air Force? My brother and I both went AF. They had these pre printed postcards that they give you and the trainees fill out there specific flight information and such and then address the front and send it out. It was a good week or 2 till we got his though.

Sorry, I mean Navy boot camp. I keep calling his recruiter and he says he has some means of accessing it but each day that I call his address is still not posted. He also said I might get a phone call before they even posted the address where my husband could tell me the address himself.

When I went through Navy boot, they got it via a postcard we sent home one of the first nights, not via phone call. Still remains the same.

The recruiter probably won't know for a while and you're not his top priority honestly right now. those are busy guys. If you look at the RTC Great Lakes website there is a general address. Until you have a ship and division number it's not helpful. If he got there the first he may not even be in a formed division yet and probably won't get into actual week one until Monday at the earliest (though possibly only starting P-week then). If he's in a 900 division the latter is probably more accurate.

I had 2 phone calls home the whole time I was in boot, I've known some who got more and some who got less.

edit: my first phone call home was week 4, just before service week started (something they have since gotten rid of I guess). My sister and brother were both the same.

I'm guessing that I might just have to wait for a letter from him with a return address on it once he gets put into his division and ship. It seems like I would have gotten a post card by now, but perhaps not. it's still early on I guess. Thanks for all of your help everyone!

No you wouldn't have gotten it by now, it is only the 7th. It can take a little bit to come through. Don't expect first letters until around week 3 or 4 you'll get those mid week as letters are written Sunday. You should get an envelope there as well which has your Form DD1172 to go and get your ID card from the closest base or center to you.

no idea for navy sorry mate.

but just sit tight, i know it sucks but think of it this way its great training for when ever he goes downrange (or the navy equiv)

just be patient (i know its hard im the most impatient women besides when im around horses known to man kind) but it takes a while for thigs to come through and right now he will be busy busy keeping his head down and will have few spare min to even think.
and mail systems seem to suck these days anyway

keep yourslef busy, have lots of letters ready to send as soon as you get the address.

Thanks for all of the help everyone, he just called me yesterday to give me his address and he was allowed ten minutes phone time. he actually sounded happy but said that the past week had been miserable, but at least his first week was over with. yay! It was really nice to hear his voice. He said that his RTC petty officer was actually one of the few that didn't scream constantly and was apparently allowing them to have weekly phone privileges (i hope that actually works out) but if one of them really screws up at sometime, their phone priveleges are all lost.

thank you guys so much for all of the comfort, i was really getting anxious!

I am really glad to hear that you got a phone call. Isn't it nice to just hear their voice. I am glad he seems to be doing well. Hang in there. You will see him again before you know it. It goes fast.

Don't be surprised if you get phone calls or letters where he sounds down or wants out. That is very common. Just keep encouraging him and he'll get through it.

I'm glad you got a call!!!
