Hello everyone. Does anyone know how long it takes to enter a new spouse into deers? Also, how long does it take for you insurance to start after I get my Id card? How soon after I get the insurance can I change it to prime and how long does it take for it to become effective?
Is your husband in Basic? If he is in basic you'll get a package with information and forms...once you get your ID you'll have tricare standard...to change it to tricare prime you'll need to enroll.Check tricare website and tricare forums for more information.
Well do you have a POA? You'll need a marriage certificate, social security, birth certificate and an id...go to DEERS office so they can put you in the system and get the id card...after that you can enroll in tricare prime.
But to be sure I'll say call the closets post and ask what you need to do and the working hours.
You must have a special POA to go get your I.D. card and to enroll your self. Tell your husband to go to legal and ask for one. I have one specifically for that reason because my ID will expire when he is deployed. They won't let you do it with a general POA.
He has to enter you into DEERS. He needs to have your Marriage Cert, SS number, ect to be able to enter you. Then you need your specail POA to be able to go on base and get your ID card. I am taking it you aren't oversea's with him correct?
As for insurance, he needs to fill out the Tri-Care forms and turn them in. If the papers are turned and processed before the 20th (I believe) to have your coverage start the next month. If it is after the 20th then you have to wait a montn.
***You turn in the papers on the 21st of Sept ... your coverage won't start until Nov ****
If I remember right thats how it works.
***Disclaimer*** I may be wrong - just correct me and my spelling may be bad - I just woke up***
You should get the paperwork in around 4 weeks, maybe sooner. In there will be the necessary form for you to get your military ID from the closest base. You are automatically enrolled in Tricare Standard when he entered you into the DEERS system. For that you will need to co-pay and have a yearly deductible. You need to find doctors who are accepted by Tricare not necessarily accept Tricare. When you get the information int he mail you can also change from Standard to Prime (No co-pay). You can fax in the form to the number or go to the Tricare Office itself. you will need the military ID for the 2nd option.
By the way, learn his SSN now. You will always be asked what the last 4 of his are, that is an ID for a lot of things.
I have a few questions about Deers and Tri-care. I am a military spouses and I'm bipolar, also have ADD and panic disorder I take 4 different medications and they are heavy meds I'm afraid that I wont be able to get an appointment right away for refills and will they keep me on the same meds and who do I even contact is it a family doctor or a psychiatrist I'm so confused with this whole process.Help!!!
I would imagine that the only issue with your meds is whether the ones you're on are the "preferred" medications - but your new doctor can discuss this with you. I'm assuming that you would need to see a psychologist/psychiatrist (can't remember which one writes out prescriptions) if you need a new prescription, but otherwise if you have refills left, just ask your old doctor for a new handwritten prescription, you can then go fill it at at an MTF for free, or you can still get your meds at any retail pharmacy as long as you don't mind paying for it - the "preferred" issue will then just dictate the cost per prescription. If you are out of refills or when you run out of refills is then when you will need to go see the new doctor/get a referral to a new doctor if necessary.
If you explain your situation to your current doctor, and your meds are urgent/necessary, I'm sure they'd be willing to oblige with the request for a written prescription, or alter your number of refills, etc, to get you through the transition period.
If you are on Tricare Prime you'll need to go to a GP first to get a referral to a psychiatrist/psychologist, if you are on Tricare Standard then you just need to pick one that is in network to go to.
When you say "perferred" medications is there like a list that they have that says what medications they don't fill at all. Okay for the biplor I am on lamicatal and lexapro and for panic disorder I am on klonopin and also the lexapro is a combo with that and for ADD Im on adderall. Now I have tried different combos and these 4 are the ones that have worked for over 2 yrs. A
With Tricare which one is better? And the doctor I would have to see is a psychiatrist they are the only ones who write the meds out. With these meds in the state of PA where Im from I had to see the dr once a month I couldnt get refills for those.
Anymore great advice will be put to good use and thank you so much.
