Does anyone know what this means? My hubby is in the Army and he has a nondeployable(yay) TDA job in Ft. Bliss. I told them maybe they need help in the kitchen lol. He's a 11b.

Before selling our house and moving our child to another school i would like to know how long he may be there for. Is there anyway we can find out. Thanks for the helpSmile

TDY is a temporary assignment. Could be just 2 weeks, could be a few months.
His orders will say how long the time will be. He needs to get a copy of them orders to find out, then plan from there. Either way, he'll be returning to his original assignment at some point.

BAW is right.. and expect it to be under 6 months most likely. either way as a TAD assignemnet he will NOT be authorized a HHG move to the location.

TDA or TDY? Two different things. Temporary Duty is TDY and, as the name implies, is a duty that is temporary in nature. It can be anything anywhere for an undefined amount of time.
TDA is "Table of Distribution and Allowances" and is a kind of unit structure. The Army has two types of units, TDA and TOE (Table of Organization and Equipment). These tables define what equipment, personnel and other things a unit is authorized and depends on their mission.
Traditional units are TOE; Infantry Companies, Transportation Battalions, Armored Brigades, etc.
TDA units are units formed for a particular function and are usually fixed geographically. The NCO Academy, a post's Headquarters, The Airborne School are all TDA - and they obviously don't deploy.

As an 11B my guess would be that he is being assigned to a school or Mobilization site to mobilize and train other units depolying. A TDA unit is a duty station like any other and you may be PCSing there for a regular 3 year stint like any other place.
Or are you saying he has TDY orders to a TDA unit?
