I am looking for information about Marine Corps NCO Swords. My son was promoted to Corporal over the summer and for Christmas he requested an NCO Sword. I did a little internet research and a few sites said the Sword was "awarded" and also that you had to go to Sword School. I do not want to step on any toes about this. Is this something we can do? I located the Sword on Sgt Grit but am hesitant to make the final purchase. Any advice would be greatly appreciated -- especially I have a second son in the Marine Corps and I'm sure he is going to want one at the appropriate time. Thank you

also, some history on the NCO Sword.

ehow.com/about_5094989_history-usmc-nco-sword.html

"Function
The Marine NCO sword is a weapon awarded to enlisted Marines who reach the rank of Corporal (E-4). The sword is a symbol of the crucial leadership role the NCOs play in the field. It also serves as a formidable weapon."

Not sure if "awarded" means the USMC actually provide them with one though it sounds like it. I don't think my son ever told me he has one. I don't want to give you bad info.

just don't be put off by some of the regulars who don't like Non Marines invading....

youhave a good question and it shouldbe answered properly. woudln;t want you to get bad info.

I know the Navy, you have to buy the sword or Cutlass..and they ain't cheap! But then again they are not a required part of the Uniform until E7( cutlass) or O4( Sword)
