My husband shipped to Basic Training two weeks ago. He was told to bring my SS card and our marriage license and that they would be shipped back to me along with paperwork for my ID, TriCare, etc. I haven't received anything. I don't even have an address for him yet.
What should I do? How long does it usually take to have your documents returned?
You don't do anything--it's only been 2 weeks. He may be able to send them back soon, he may not be able to get them back until he's done with Basic. Just depends on how busy he is and if he's allowed to send out documents like that.
don't even begin to worry until a month has passed.. it often can take that long for the paperwork to be sent to you. he may not have even done all the necessary paperwork yet.
When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand.

No, actually those were the one things they made a certified copy of before he left. I told them they couldnt take them. Birth certificates, marriage license, bank acct info, all of that got lost. I think it cost us somewhere around $180 to get everything again.
That is terrible! I'm scared of that happening, as I'm sure every other military wife in my situation is.
Do any of you know how long it takes for the Army to start processing the dependent's TriCare stuff? I had to cancel my insurance at work, so I'm uninsured until everything gets set up and I haven't received anything in the mail yet. I'm trying to be patient, but I'm worried and don't know what to expect.
I'm about 95% positive that your insurance is back dated to the date your husband shipped out for Basic. So if you get any bills between now/then and when you get your card, you can go through the claims process yourself/turn in the bills to Tricare for payment.
In terms of actually getting the paperwork, on average it takes between 4 and 6 weeks - maybe a bit more if they're slow or backed up. If he's already shipped and you end up having to go to the ER or anything, you should be able to tell them you have Tricare Standard and your husband's social & rank. If you need to go to a doctor for some kind of non-emergency issue, go ahead to Tricare's website and find a network provider so that you know your bills will at some point be covered or reimbursed.

Allie- I'm with you, I'm sure that you are actually insured from the date he left for BCT. It will be for standard though, you have to actually put in for Prime if I remember right.
If you have your ID then you can use that at the Dr's office as your insurance card.
