My husband recently joined the Air Force and is currently in basic training. He is entering as a SERE Specialist.I have been researching websites trying to get as much info as possible. I want to be prepared and understand what takes place and what to expect. I understand training is twice a year Jan. & July. He will be done with basic training in February. So I am assuming once he passes the SERE Selection Course he will be waiting to attend the SERE Specialist Training in July? What takes place in that time span? In another forum they said it is not recommended that family go stay with the airman during SERE training, so should I expect not to be with my husband until December 09'? Will I be able to visit? I know there are not many SERE Specialist so should we expect to be stationed at a specific station? And if any one is married to a SERE Specialist or is a SERE Specialist what is family life like? I am very excited for this opportunity in our lives, but I would love any info someone might be able to give. Thanks so much!

I would suggest you try asking your questions over on the Air Force discussion pages. There aren't as many spouses there, but I think there are one or two SERE Specialist and they might be able to give you some insight.

Here are a couple of places you may have missed. I think the reason they discourage you from moving up there is because so many people drop out of the class. You wouldn't want to move for a month or two.

My husband is currently in BMT and then is going to tech school for S.E.R.E. Specialist training. I too have many questions that I would like to have answered. If anyone knows about the family life of a S.E.R.E. Instructor, please provide some insight. Thank you.

God Bless,
Manda.

Hello! I am a SERE spouse and I would be happy to answer whatever questions I can. You may be discouraged to move up to Spokane because of the drop out rate of people in SERE training. I have had friends that did move up there during training. He will be gone quite often in training and then once he is an instructor is gone quite a bit.
