Hello. I graduate basic in Nov and start AIT after that. I will have Christmas Exodus in DEC. Can my wife come and drive me home? I live around 550 miles from AIT, but my extended family lives nearby. Can I meet her somewhere and when Exodus is over can I drive back myself and have my vehicle on base or leave it with my family since they live nearby.
Yes, your wife will be allowed to come pick you up. When you start doing paperwork for leaving, they'll make you choose whether you're leaving via POV, plane, or bus/etc. You won't be allowed to drive at all, just keep that in mind.
The Army makes a big deal out of not driving when a soldier hasn't been driving civilian vehicles for a while. Between the two phases of OSUT, my son was not allowed to drive at all. After graduation, the CO put some statistics up during graduation about the number of accidents that occur immediately after completion of training. He really stressed that they should not drive for a couple of days.
When he came back from deployment, he again was told that he could not drive for a couple of days to get acclimated to being around non-military vehicles. That was my one and only time to drive the car he bought while he was deployed - lol.
