Has she tried asking if her parents can buy her ticket? I don't mean that as a sarcastic response, but sometimes soldiers in training are afraid to ask questions (understandably). The command's main concern is making 100% sure that the soldier has a ride home one way or the other, so they may be pushy about using their travel agency.

The other thing to keep in mind is that depending on what what site you use, the ticket may not be confirmed. If you use a discount site, for example, she could be bumped and be in a world of hurt/trouble. Just encourage her to gently ask a question or two and see what the response is. If she has to, she has to.

Another pont, they may be pushing the agency because the agency is getting military fares. The cheapest fares on flights are the first bumped in over crowding conditions, non refundable, and non transferable. Military fares are much more flexible because they are in a higher ticket class (for less money than you'd normally spend on that ticket fare class), meaning less of a chance the soldier will not make it back on time to re-start training.

the ticket price from aladdin travel is 960.00 and from the other is 396.00. I would have thought the military would be less money, not so much more

Are they buying a refundable ticket? If they are, that would absolutely make up the difference.

yup. military fares are fully refundable, at a lower cost than a fully refundable ticket through the website. You have to make sure you are comparing the same fare class when comparing tickets, not just cost.

Having dealt with the Atlanta airport, I can guarantee that there will be major overbooking of flights coming into Atlanta at that time of year. Catherine has it right that those cheap tickets are going to get bumped first. Your daughter can ask a few questions but the important thing that must be kept in mind is that she has to be back on time.

If she is allowed to obtain tickets outside the approved travel agency then I would suggest booking the flight a day or two early just to make sure she gets back on time.

Therein lies the problem, assuming not much has changed at Gordon in 2 years. People flying out had a 48 hour period of time in which to fly out for EXODUS - one extra day than people being picked up via vehicle. That's why I can see them demanding use of the travel agency - there's simply not a lot of wiggle room.

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand.

Yeah my understanding when my husband was there is they want to make sure everyone is gone by a certain time. Everyone including instructors goes on Exodus so there is no one there. With all the crazy travel stuff I would pay the higher price to make sure she made it home.

I do know this, if you do not have a secured form of transportation by a certain time they will make other arrangments for you and take whatever it costs out of your pay.

Oooh good point Shannon, I forgot about that! Or even worse, you're essentially volunteering yourself to be one of the lone 3 or 4 who sit on watch during those 2 weeks.

Yeah that would not be fun! I know when Adam was there on Exodus they actually packed up their barracks. It was like no one was there.
