I'm waiting for the U.S. Military Channel that's supposed to launch later this year. They are supposed to focus on the present more than the past.

Personally i love the military channel,but ya i agree the military channel should focus more on whats going on right now rather then always talking about the past.

I think they show us a good amount of both past and recent events as well as other stories. If you think about it how else are we going to hear about how things really happened when the old vets, speaking on the shows, die?

Military Channel is doing "Marine Week". Just saw some recruit training from P.I.,S.C., showing "The Crucible". Now it is "Mountain Marines" from the Mountain Warfare Training Center in the Sierra Nevadas.

{ I was there "back when" we stayed in G.P. tents with broken zippers, cots on wooden pallets-( don't let that foot peg slip between the slats- Wink), and cold water shave/showers. Now it looks like they have built some "Hotel" style barracks.}

High altitude humpin', rock climbing, mountaineering skills...

I've seen all these episodes several times, man those Marines sure get their money's worth of training out in the Mountains.

Civilegg:---Well, according to your bio, you would like it..."adrenaline sports" would be an apt description of many of the things done there! The part of the course that I liked the most was the Horse/mule/donkey training...It was funny to see the city-bred guys attempting to work with the four-legged "jeeps"-- Big Grin

BTW---Don't wait until you are too old to join and your grandkids say: "What did you do in the Army Grampa?" In the morning get yourself to a Recruiting station. Ask some questions of each branch. They all pay the same $, so it has to do with what task/job/assignment/challenge that you want. There is also the Reserve/National Guard* which/who goes to the same Basic Training , then Advanced Training(job-MOS-rate), then return to their hometown and serve one weekend per month, and 2 weeks annual training. Okay..? Get-ur-Done! You'll not regret serving.

* The Air and Army National Guard recruiters/offices will be found in the White Pages front of your Local phone Book section called Government Listings. Look under State government-then Dept. of Military. Or look for the Armory or Airfield near your town.

I have already been talking with recruiters Sir. I'm looking into the NG here in Texas. I'm working through some financial issues so I dont have to worry while I'm off at BCT. ARMY is the way I'm goin. Its in the works. Definitely within a year maybe 18 months. At most. I'm getting old at 31 Big Grin

CiviLegg:---Good to hear that. I should warn you that nobody gets rich in the Military---{just in case you were thinking that you'll be able to pay off a bunch of debts.}

Sorry for the delay in posting a Reply, but for some unknown reason the "system" blocked me from logging on to Mil.com---?? Boo-Hiss...Unable to play yesterdays Trivia game- Frown.

Back to The Military Channel (which is the Thread Topic- Wink). They had a good program on today featuring the L.A. County Sherriff's Office SWAT unit. Very hard training, and they cross-train with some Navy SEALS and some Marines at their training facility.

I haven't posted any other "Heads-Up" alerts about the Channel because it seems like nobody seems to care what is on a channel concerned with the Military...or the Pentagon Channel,,,but many of the posters and members will spend money to watch movies that "trash" and ridicule our Military and the fighting men in Uniform!

BTW---There was a great scene in the LASO SWAT program in which they were training with Helicopter Insertions and Extractions and they were using the tried and true Sikorsky-34...Which some swabbie aircraft mechanic (on another thread) insulted me for suggesting that we use them,,,instead of buying new and expensive "Boondogle" aircraft...

Hope that swabbie wrench turner saw that program! Big Grin
