I think I posted this in the wrong place originally...sorry...
This may or may not be a different type question, but I'm in a serious relationship with a former Marine (scout sniper) who was also with Black Water for a while and is still working in that realm of military related work (not enlisted or anything tho). I have no prior experience with military or dating military. I have several questions and thoughts. My whole world has certainly been enlightened by realizing how different things are in the military, war, combat, third world countries, etc and I'm SO glad that I've been able to learn about all of this through my relationship, BUT, I know that there is a lot that I still don't know. I love my boyfriend and we have a great relationship. I know he has been thru a lot, and I wonder how that affects him and others and if some of what he has been thru may surface in various ways later. I guess I'm referring to bad memories/dreams, how does military life (marines/snipers especially) affect a relationship in ways that are different from civilians...control, leadership, expectations of things maybe running like clock work in the home environment compared to military life...I just don't know what to expect. I never really thought much of it until I tell people his history and they are some what taken back and tell me how "hard core" marines are, etc... Then there's the possibility of him maybe wanting to get back into it.... |
