I graduated the Air Force IDMT school in 1997 and have been pretty much on independent duty since. I was informed last year that Air Force trained personnel in the Coast Guard are wearing an Air Force Badge these days. I have never seen it before and am wondering if someone can:

1. Clear up the rumor that there is even a badge to begin with.

2. If there is one, can someone post a photo of what it looks like.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Good morning Sir.

I do know that if an official badge or award is given to a member of the Coast Guard by another branch of service in the US Armed Forces, while in an official capacity with the Coast Guard, it is authorized for wear on the Coast Guard uniform.

Some examples of this are the various NCO development ribbons given to Coast Guard members who participate in the classes or even the members of the Coast Guard who underwent paratrooper training who are authorized to wear the badge.

I was just curious if there was such a piece of insignia was awarded to members who completed(past tense because the Coast Guard no longer sends members to this school). the IDMT class at Sheppard AFB and if so, what does it look like.

PaulMedic,
I have seen graduates of the Pharmacy school wearing their badge. I would assume the Air Force has a badge for the IDMT....You might want to send HSCM Goodhue an email at Cape May since he was our Force Manager when we still sent people to that school. HSC Ongamach (maybe CWO now) was an instructor there I believe.

On a side note, if they ever approve our IDHS pin, you'll be authorized to wear that also. As CDR Flynn pointed out (however coy he was Smile ), you'll be questioned endlessly about it if you wear an Air Force badge. You'll be well served to carry a copy of the uniform regs page in your pocket.

Bob, I might have an extra IDMT sticker that I got in '96(looks cool-caduceus with snakes) that you can have to put on the back window of the "beast" if the badges turn out to be a rumour. Big Grin

LOL! A lot of you brother/sister HSs have the medical flag as an avatar, so I get confused easily; you should see me on the podium... Confused I meant Bob, AKA CGBoatDocTrainer, a fellow instructor, but if I dig another one up (I might have two) I'll send you one. If I only have one, I'll make a copy of the original and send it to you and let you color it in... Wink

George you kill me brother. Confused Paulmedic, you are authorized the shield with the star above it. It was issued to you when you graduated IDMT School from the AF. You graduated as a level 7. I prefer to wear my cuttermans pin. As an HS I am way more proud of that than anything else. 9 years sea time. Merry
Christmas.

Finally, an avatar that matches your description! Applause By the way, living on a barge while your boat is in dry dock shouldn't count for "sea-time", especially when there's a keg and a cane-pole next you... Razz...just bustin't on ya "Goldberg"....

Thank you Chief! I would be more proud of my Cutterman's pin, when I earn the right to make it permanent. :-D

Our class never got that insignia presented to us when I went through. It must be a newer deal, or perhaps everyone just went out and bought theirs?

Regardless, thank you for the information. I wish you and everyone a Happy New Year! I cannot believe that it is already 2008!

Chief Fly, any chance you have a link to what that Pharmacy badge looks like? Reason I ask, and it dosen't really make that much difference now as I separated from the USCG over 10 years ago, but I did graduate from the USA Pharmacy Specialist program at Fort Sam back in 91. It would be nice to add to my profile and shadowbox if it is something we are in fact entitled to. Thanks! Happy Holidaze! -Jeff

Jeff,
Just to be clear, I was referencing the Air Force badges in my post. This is what I could find online: Air Force Medical Badges
