Despite everything that was stated above, it seems as if it will be awarded upon GRADUATION from the course Mad

Paulmedic- It WILL NOT be awarded upon graduation. You MUST have a successful tour as an IDHS, SUCCESSFUL tour. This pin will be awarded from the HS Force Master Chief with the appropriate paperwork sent by you to them.

I would like to know those names, units and dates. Please send those if you prefer to my work e-mail. robert.t.kulbeth@uscg.mil. I would like to do some f/u on this.

I spoke with HSC and cleared up the confusion. He thought that I was talking about alumni of the new Coast Guard IDHS school failing in the field... This is not the case.

When I stated that I knew of personnel who passed "the" course and failed in the field, I was referring to personnel who passed AN independent duty corpsman course. There have been two other different services administering Independent Corpsmen courses... The Navy and the Air Force. The members I am thinking of took one of these two, as the Coast Guard course was not even a concept at the time.

Per the topic title of the thread, my previous comments were in reference to the proposed eligibility for the new IDHS badge, not the success rate of the various individual Independent Duty schools themselves.

Again, The topic of the thread is the actual pin and the eligibility requirements thereof, NOT track records and success statistics of graduates of certain schools. I know nothing about the Coast Guard C-school or its success rate. I attended the Air Force IDMT school back in 1997.

Now, I back up my original statement... I, for a fact, know of several Independent duty corpsmen relieved for cause since the start of my time in the Coast Guard in 1992.

Sorry for any confusion.

The true measure of a corpsman is not held in what we wear on our uniforms, it is the trust that is held in the thoughts of our crewmembers..

That is the test and that is the graduation..regardless of what schools you may have attended, that means nothing if your crew does not respect you.
