IDHS School is ramping up once again for the incoming September 8th class. As per HS Rating Force Master Chief's Notes dated Jan 07 it stated that you must be NREMT to come to school. If you are planning on coming to the January or May classes, it is very important that you have your certification "BEFORE" School.

For the September class, if you have orders, are expired and I have NOT talked to you yet either by phone or e-mail, call or e-mail me ASAP! I just sent out the welcome aboard e-mail.

HQ is getting very serious on this issue. After the ALCOAST that came out saying that an HS "A" School student who does not pass the NREMT will not graduate as an HS3 but as an SNHS, we are holding all paygrades accountable.

If you have any questions, just give me a shout. I am in global.

HSC,

My IDHS here in Virginia told me alot of the class was taught out of the EMT-Intermediate book with many of the EMT-I skills taught such as intubation and IVs. Has there ever been talk of actually certifying the IDHS as NREMT-Intermediates vice being Basics? I know the Con-Ed would make it tough for the sea going HS but would be a benifit in the long run for professional development.

What do you think?

BMC,

I think that would be a geat thing to do. The problem is we cannot even get the students showing up with their NREMT basic. They are not maintaining their skills if they were previously certified. Now the rate is moving back to where every HS should be certified. When will that happen, no one knows. I think that when we can get most of the rate back to requiring being NREMT I don't see why we can't make the IDHSs EMT-I. But we need to baby step.

Great suggestion and it has been talked about, but it is a little premature right now for the school.

Thanks,

Bob
