I am currently at the bottom of the HS A-school list. I would like to know if there is anything I could be down now to help prepare me for A-school. I am currently taking classes online with the University of Phoenix to get my associates of arts in health care administration. I know I could also be studying for the EPME. Other than that, is there any way to start studying for stuff that would be covered in A-School?

The best thing you can do while waiting for "A" School is get the most current edition of Brady's EMT. You can also go the TRACEN Petaluma EMT web page and print off the memorization pages for both Trauma and Medical scenerios. You will go through EMT before starting HS School and I have seen people fail out or that are palced on hold waiting for the next EMT course.

Lenibobo offers good advice, but...in my humble opinion I think you would be better off getting a book on medical terminology along with the latest edition of Brady's EMT. IF you don't understand the lingo you will most likely have a difficult time understanding what Brady is talking about. Maybe throw in a book on human anatomy. Don't worry about memorizing the Trauma and Medical scenerios (that will come by just being in the class). Become familiar with them. I have seen students come into HS"A" school who were EMTs prior to getting there and fail. They thought they knew it all. They either didn't listen to their instructors or the presure got to them. Again just my humble opinion. Good luck.

Frist learn how to treat patients, try to get over to your clinic as much as possible. Try a civiilon EMT class, volunteer at a local hospital. Learn how to treat the patient not the papperwork. In my oppinion the best corpman who care more about people than papperwork. I know some HS's out in Miami drop me a line on global I'll give you a couple of names.

Would taking EMT classes and getting my license be more beneficial than these classes with the University of Phoenix?

I'd say continue on with the UOP classes if you have the time now. You may want to look at the HS a school site for the link to the ACE credit equivalents you will be awarded for completion of HS "A" so that you do not pay for classes at UOP that you will get credit for at A school. -Jeff

Yes!!! I just heard that "coming soon" third class crows will be withheld untill the EMT-B National Registry test is passed.

Back in the early 90's you didn't even start "A" school until you'd completed the emt portion. I recall several from our class that were returned to the fleet as SN/FN's after not passing the emt portion! -Jeff
