Another source for information is the HSRFMC. He has the files from when we actually started as a rate in the CG and the historical info when we almost got rid of the HM/HS rate and became Navy HMs.

You are worried about the future of the HS rate? That's BS!! If you were actually worried you would step up, put your real identity on here and offer a true discussion. If you prefer to remain anonymous (Rusty Noisewater does not exist in global, yes you may be TAD but no one I know has ever heard of you) but still gripe and complain you can always call me and discuss it offline. You remind me of some people I know who will not accept change and run around yelling the "sky is falling, look at me, look at me, I'm collecting a paycheck but I'm not willing to do the work for it." It's that attitude that will affect the future of our rate. Or just come knock on my office door. HSC Roger Elliott HS "A" Course Chief 707-765-7714 roger.a.elliott@uscg.mil Bldg 125 Room 110 |

Roger-
Great post! I've been out of rate for a few years now but from the outside looking back in I'd say there are certainly more oportunities for young Corpsmen in the Guard today than there were when I got into the business. All of the tactical med stuff coming online and the fact that we stood up our own IDC school....I'd say the future looks bright. Cheers! Phil |

Phil, your killing me. It is IDHS, not IDC. Like you said you have been out of rate for awhile. Bob |

I was one of the instructors in "HM" School at the CG Academy Hospital, New London, CT, in 1973 when it was first opened to end sending coasties to Navy Corps School. The other instructors were: HMCM Mark Coleman, HMC Lou Nanni, HMC Tom Wolfe, HMC Don Hisken,HM1 Connie Swaro, HM2 George (forgot the last name) and our CO was LCDR Hugh Teel. HMCM Joe White came later to replace Mark Coleman who went into retirement. I was there from 1973 to 1976. At that time, there was already a talk about merging the two rates (corpsman & Dental), but it didn't happen while I was there. I would like to hear from our former students. I am now into writing. Visit my website at www.rayburdeos.com. Thanks.
