Hey all,

Dunno if you all know about this yet or not, but for some months on navyidc.org they have been posting about it. If it has already been discussed here, I apologize for posting it but I did not see it on the boards.

-------------------------
In August 2007, the U.S. Navy solicited proposals for the development of online degree programs with the following goals:

• Designed specifically for Navy IDCs
• Support the concept of life-long learning by accepting and acknowledging the training and experience of the IDCs for college credit
• Be delivered to IDCs at all duty stations with access to a computer, both at sea and on shore

The overall objective of the proposal was to provide IDCs with academic credentials advance their career opportunities. Saint Francis University responded and was awarded a one year grant to develop an online Bachelor of Science in Health Science (BSHS) degree program and to study the feasibility of an online Master of Physician Assistant Science degree program, specifically for qualified IDCs.

-----------------

The original announcement is here. http://www.navyidc.org/content/degree-programs-saint-francis-university

Since then the program has gotten underway and they are currently taking students. The site for the program is here. http://www.francis.edu/bshs.htm

Ive already talked to them myself, and they are accepting Coast Guard IDHS as well. Here is the greatest part. The BSHS includes all the pre-reqs for a new Online education Physician Asst Program. Im not sure how that is going to work out because they are still working on it and getting accredidation for it.

Irregardless, if you work with them to plan your classes you will have all the class pre-req's you need to apply to either the CG Physician Asst program, or to their program once its online.

This is a GREAT education opportunity for IDHS's!

I am getting my BSHS through TUI (Touro University International). They have a BS program for both IDCs and PMTs.
