Thank you for your article. I am a home schooling mother and think that this should be my privilege and my right. I was also home schooled and loved every minute of it. As long as the parent makes sure that they provide their children with a good education it should be up them where they go to school.

There is the problem as I see it....leaving it up to the parent to decide what is a "Good" education.

If the parent only has a HS Diploma, how can they provide a "Good" education to their children? What if the parent does not have a HS Diploma?

Living here in Utah I have seen the effects of Home Schooling gone wrong. There is no supervision over the process, all it takes is for a parent to say they are home schooling and thats it. A friend of my daughters (9 years old) and her siblings are all "Home Schooled"...they were originally pulled out of school by their mother because they were falling behind the other kids and she did not want them to flunk out. Now they are home schooled and, frankly, have to be some of the most uneducated children around. Their mother is out of town working 5 days a week, their father works in town and they are supervised by a 19 year old sister...no education happens that is noticable, just a herd of children running around outside all day.

I think home schooling is fine IF there is oversight and someone makes sure the children are receiving a decent education.
