Does anyone out there know where I might find some information on Newfoundland's contribution to WW11, especially the RAF's 124th Newfoundland Squadron. My father was a member of this Squadron and served from 1940 until the wars end. He was lent out to many RAF squadrons during the war because of his knowledge of Aircraft . Any British veterans or their families still alive that might remember this Squadron, would love to hear from you.

I recommend that you start a new thread, this one is specifically about the RAF Regiment which is a ground rather than a flying arm.
I also think you might try looking for a for 124 Sqn. in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) - I know Newfoundland was under direct rule at the time but according to the RAF's History of No. 124 Squadron., No. 124 RAF was formed and disbanded in 1918 and not reformed until May 1941. Are you sure you've got the right number? No. 125 Sqn has a Caribou on it's badge but was still not reformed until 1941.

All of the ww2 RCAF squadrons were numbered in the "400 "series, so 125 is a RAF designation.

The Caribou is a long time visual image used by Newfoundlanders, for example as the cap badge of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment which served with great distinction in WW1.

I suggest that 125 be3ing named "Newfoundland " had more to do with recognising the contribution of that island's population than the make up of the actual unit.
