Does anyone know where I could download the new language version DLPT 5? I would like to take the test and wish to practice based on what is given on the test.

dude.. i do not remember the D-Lab test being study-able.

things may have changed since i was in, but they do not test your proficiency in a language, they test in your proficiency to LEARN a language.

the test was administered by a contractor, and it consisted of a made up language with grammar and voccabulary.
it was relly quite confusing, and being who i was, i failed the test miserably... i later found out that both my brothers failed it too.
my eldest and i speak german spanish and English... the middle brother spoke chinese, russian, as well as our native languages, and was learning German at the time.

if the defense language proficiency test is different now, i would be surprised...

good luck finding material. have you gone to your post library to see if there is a TM somewhere?

You can take an English mock DLPT5 at the DLIFLC website, www.dliflc.edu. It will familiarize you with the format and timing of the test. As for your target language, the best I can tell you outside of the language school is - study!

I think some of you are confussed. The DLAB is your ability to learn a lang. the DLPT test your compatency in a sepcific LANG. basically you take the DLAB to see if you qualify for the army to teach you a language and then you take the DLPT to show you know the language you were taught and how much you get paid for it.

The DLAB is a short term memory test. I don't see how it can measure anything other than that. I took it with a guy who spoke mandarin and some arabic and he got a 68. I lived in Italy for 2 years. I only speak enough Italian to get slapped in a bar. I got a 117. BTW This is an Airborne thread. Go do push ups dumby.

The DLAB only measure your aptitude in learning languages, not whether or not you have learned them. People will give you all kinds of anecdotal evidence that they think it's not true, but the statistics show that higher DLAB scores do indicate that you have a higer aptitude to learn a language. Now having the commitment, work ethic, opportunity or many other factors that go into learning a language- it tell us nothing.
