Don't worry about it being cold while on the Plane, or while you are Jumping, the adrenilne will keep you warm. be worried about being cold while on the Drop Zone waiting for everyone to get back to the Rally Point. Which can be a while especially if you are the first or second stick on the first Lift while on a night jump.
Also any tips on how to get ready for jump school or basic Yes PASS THE AIRBORNE PFT, Pushups(well your Army so you don't have to deal with the Magic 41), Situps and Runtime. If you want to be Safe Try and get you runtime below 15:30. The hardest part of Airborne School is getting into Airborne school. Make sure you Can Pass the APFT, Your are On time for CQ or Make sure you have paid someone reliable to take it for you, you can Run at a 8 minute Mile pase for 4 miles and DON"T DO ANYTHING STUPID and you will be good.

I went through Airborne School in January 1988. I thought the weather was great! Except for one morning PT session which was chilly, the temps were great.

Get ready by running about 4 miles every morning and do pull-ups until you can do about 10. As far as jumping out of a plane in January....consider ourself lucky. You will hit the ground a lot slower then than if you had jumped in August. Cold air is DENSE and parachutes descend slower in cold weather. Also you don't usually get ground winds on Fryar Field then.

actually im in airborne school right now and we just did our first jump today. as for the pt test it is on monday morning and even if your Army u still have to worry about the 41 club. we started on monday morning with amost 600 people in our company and we lost 143 from the pt test u gotta do 423 pushups 53 situps and a run in 1554 no matter how old u are. also you are not allowed to pay anyone or trade anyone for cq shifts even on the weekends. its either u do ur shift or u get dropped. u should plan on doubletiming everywhere u go. and i mean every where. just make sure u are squared away and u will be fine. good luck

yeah sry bout that its 42 pushups in two mins and two mins for the situps and u gotta run 2 miles on a mostly flat track that is paved and about a mile long. we jumped about 450 but we had additions from people who failed something in a previous cycle and had to repeat with us.

Man that sucks you can't Pay for CQ. In one weekend I Made $200. What Company are you with? Is that a Company rule or do you know if it's for everyone at Airborne school? So How long were you in the Harness? One my first Jump I was Fifth Stick and I was in the Harness for 13 hours, yes 13 hours. The guys in the First two sticks got on the Plane and Circle Fryer Drop zone for an hour and a Half waiting for the wind to go down. Did you have any jump refusals? In my class I had one Female Specialist Jump Refuse three times. They kicked her out the first two times but on the Third they unhooked her and sat her down on the Ramp.

We had 2 platoons full of people who got dropped after the PT test. I don't get that. The rule about no paying for CQ shifts must be new because I graduated in March and we could do it.
We didn't have any jump refusals, just idiots who kept playing with their equipment after JMPI, one guy got recycled for it and hour before our 5th jump. Idiot. When they say don't touch your helmet- don't touch your helmet!

Do chin ups (your palms facing you). You'll do 10 of them before and after every meal. The SGTs Airborne don't really watch but make sure you can do them on the off chance they watch you go through.

No, you'll be a five jump chump. Get to the 82nd and knock out your cherry blaster then you'll be a paratrooper.

I started Jumped School 1 Jan 1966, it was a bit cool, but not cold, jumps? We made 6 instead of 5 (normal) the pilot needed more air time. When I jump in Jan of 66 I didn't feel any cold, to busy wanting to unas* that plane after waiting around all day, with those straps between my legs, the balls started hurting early on...hahahahahahahahaha.....

But when I got to my unit A Company 75th Rangers in 1971 (took some time to get there, Vietnam 2 tours, got out for awhile, etc).

When we did jumps, it was a lot faster then jump school we only waited on the tarmac for about an hour...hahahahahaha...The balls still hurt....equipment jumps were a blast, if everything stay on....Had my kit bag kind of have a mind of its own once...almost took out the cook!!! Good thing they run alot in Airborne and the Rangers and S.F. and the cooks don't!!!!

I went in an October and we were still wearing summer PTs in the morning. I would fill my canteen with hot water in a pitiful attmept to stay warm. Even though it would get hot inthe day it was pretty cold at 0500 or whatever time it was.

I wouldn't trust anyone with my CQ duty. Too much to lose. It's really not so bad either, if you got a laptop, DVD player, Blackberry, etc. I did mine on a weekend, though, so I got to sleep every night before PT. I slept a LOT during jump school. I was pretty much out by 2000 every night.

The 41 club is real. Had a friend that could easily pass push ups get stuck at 41. Good for him that he passed the retest. 90% of the females failed the pull up hang. Heard they don't do that anymore.

My last piece of advice is not healthy.... but don't drink anything, or very little, when you guys get into harness. You can sit for hours and hours in the harness. There were guys ****ing in bottles out in the open. Thje last day we had a quick first jump, but then sat for 7 hours until the 2nd. One guy ****ed his pants.

Yeah I just graduated in July, I was the student platoon sergeant for my platoon and made our CQ roster. Nothing happened to the guys that didn't show up (which happened a couple of times because we had it for two weekends for some reason). As long as you handle **** like that inside the platoon and don't go running crying to the blackhats they wont get dropped. Unless they are a real ass hat and you want them gone. We started with just over 500 and like 53 I think dropped because of the PT test. I don't know what it is but they are right about the 41 club. Also, you don't have to worry about getting too cold on the drop zone. The buses were always there ready to take us back. As soon as your whole stick gets back and you've got accountability of everyone, you hop on a bus and it's back to the harness shed. x2 what WiFi Warrior said, don't drink a lot because depending on what stick you are in you can be sitting in the harness shed rigged up for 6+ hours very easily. And once you get JMPI'd you can NOT touch your ****.

I completed the Basic Airborne Course last month with A Co.

APFT: 42 PU and told to get up. Some soldiers had a problem with keeping their hands on the wooden board. Sit ups were 53 and up and the run was two laps around Tower Branch on flat cement terrain. We lost about 100 soldiers after the APFT, 40 of them were cadets. Empty out the bladder and guts before the APFT, one cadet **** his pants...but still managed to pass the run...

CQ: I had it only once, but my E-6 Stick Leader was so impressed with my performance as a cadet, he assured that I didn't get it a second time. We were unauthorized to sell the shifts nor were we allowed to have any reading materials or electronics on the shift. CQ was practically like Fireguard duty in BCT.

Runs: 5 runs, fall out of 2 you were dropped from the course. Lost three soldiers in my platoon for this...

Ground Week and Tower Week: As long as one pays attention to the block of instruction and PE, then the threat of recycle is minimal. We only had two in two weeks recycle for not meeting standards (SLT).

Harness Shed: I waited up to 8 hours in combat gear in the shed, then another 40 minutes with my stick in the C-130 as the engine was stalling. Had two soldiers removed from the course for touching their chinstrap...attention to detail I suppose. As for fluids, if you drink a steady amount of water during first two weeks, then the fluid intake won't bother you too much in the shed. If one didn't consume water that often, then gets thirsty due to personnel proximity in the harness shed and downs water...then you may be the one who volunteers to recycle because he didn't want to crap his pants.

Jumps: Alot of incorrect PLFs, alot of injuries. The Black Hats strived for zero, but we ended up having about a dozen or so jumpers break bones or tear ligaments/cartilage. One female dislocated a shoulder. Worse part about the jumps is the Chute Shakeout after the jumps.

5 from C-130...no C-17 jumps.

A Co also has a no alcohol policy, even during off-duty time.
