Wondering if anyone here has been to SOCM, and can give me the scoop. I'm moving to a LRS unit, and am already a 68W, but they want to send me to SOCM too. I am a Paramedic/Firefighter in the civilian world and have been doing that for nearly 15 years. Any info on what to expect at SOCM is appreciated.
Nonetheless, you arent getting a slot at SOCM unless you are in a SOF unit or enroute to one (75th RR, SEALs, SARC, SWCC, CA, SOSB, or in the SFQC). LRS units in the NG, or in the AC for that matter, arent SOF and as such there are not slots in SOCM for them. You will do just fine as a 68W, though I would try to talk them into sending me to OEMS or GorGrp to learn more wilderness medicine.
Best of luck if they can get you a slot for SOCM... that school is outrageous to get into. My husband has had 3 differnt class dates and all get canked! If you can get it AWESOME! because it will benefit you in the long run just in training. I have several friends who have atteneded, CA, SF, RGR medics...
best of luck
