I was just watching Heartbreak Ridge starring Clint Eastwood. And to all you younger Marines who never heard of it or seen it you guys have to rent it.Although some of it's corny Clint Eastwood played a true "Gunny".To me it's a Marine classic with all the typical **** tard Lance Coolies.

It's my favorite Marine Corps comedy.
It was filmed at my old home-away-from-home Camp Talega. ---------------------------------------------------- Semper Fi, DeepRecon Communications Chief http://www.forcerecon.com/ |

Seen it a couple times. Never liked it much.
Mouthing off to a gunny? Firing from the hip? |

Clint was pretty funny in that movie with all his sayings though. |

I'm not dumber than a sack of hammers. I'm a sack of nails. |
It was a Marine Corps comedy if there ever was one. I always thought it was funny, especially since I've been to Talega a million times and now am stationed on the east side, that they tried to pass off CP for CLNC. They are nothing alike.

Funny movie. I saw it in Jacksonville while on AD. Prior to seeing it, I caught a review on TV here in Philly at the time and they were actually insulted that the Marine Corps could be portrayed like that. They were a lot more uptight about it than the Marines in the movie theater.
While exaggerated, there was an element of truth to the “Old Corps” Vietnam era Colonels and senior enlisted vs. the “New Corps” zero defects younger officers and Staff Sergeants that existed during that period. |

The movie is corny in some ways but Clint and Mario Van Peeples made that movie a riot.I don't think Eastwood directed that movie though.

I was embarrassed.
If you want funny, watch Major Payne. That was funny. |

Well, It was shot on Camp Pendleton...so there had to be some help from the Corps. Also one of my old 1stSgt's was in that movie, he was a SSgt at the time. Even had a line in the movie..."Gunny, the platoon is formed for PT". He was recon Marine. |

Us CL Marines could not wear sunglasses due to we needed a direct line of sight with no obstructions as we were taking a match that close to our b+++s to remove a tic.
Nothing personal I just hated that movie, thought it was a poor representation of what Marines and Recon are all about is all. |

My former Platoon Sgt. (A.Co.3rd.Recon, Hawaii) was the repel master at the tower in the movie. Sgt. Dever. Now retired Sgt.Mgr with his own Hollywood company:
http://www.1forceinc.com/ List of his movies is quite impressive. But yes, Heartbreak Ridge sucked. |

The best (or worst) Marine Corps comedy of all time tho has to be "Tribes" starring Jan Michael Vincent. Anyone remember that waste of film?

I saw that in a High School class. It sucked but it was better than the normal lecture. |

This might make a few of you Marines that did not like HeartbreaK Ridge happy, but if me memory serves me right (lots of beers ago), Heartbreak Ridge was originally written for the Army Rangers but the Army would not support it due to bad language and Clint's character getting physical with a few of the enlisted guys. And from what I read about the movie years ago USMC tried to back out of the flick too for the same reasons plus there is no such thing as a broke dick USMC Recon platoon like that.
Another reason I believe it was originally written about the Rangers is cuz if you remember the scene when they were taking the island of Greneda one of the Marines uses a calling card I think to call back to the states to call for fire. That did actually happen back in the 1983 invasion but it was a Ranger that made that call back to Savannah Georgia. Also there is a scene where Mario Van Peebles was in that bar and the lady that owns it explains to him that Gunny Highway and the old Sgt Major were in the Army during Korea then they both switched to USMC. Soooooo, you Marines are off the hook! I can't believe I just said that, me being an old Army Airborne grunt back in the Greneda days. |

when I reported in to A co 1/5 in may of 1986, I was told that 1st plt a co 1/5 was used to help train the actors for the movie. One of the Sgts had a autograph from Peebles and Eastwood.
