Just wondering, how many NVG's are you guys getting now? I seem to see almost every Marine with IR Lasers on their rifles and can only assume they also have NODS..

Does the leadership only carry them or are they starting to end up in the hands of privates?

I had a PVS-14 for my SAW. (I think that was the designation) and my team leader and our grenadier had NVG's. we had two per team plus the SAW's night optic.

Would be pretty retarded for only leadership to carry night optics.

"Where's the sniper??"
"There"
"Where sir?"
"THERE!! can't you see it?!?"

Everyone in my unit has PVS-14s and PEQ-2As on their rifles. LARethan, if your optic was a night scope mounted on top of the SAW and not to your helmet, then that is a PVS-17B. I had one too when I was a SAW gunner.

Funny, back when I first joined (1999), there was such sh*tty funding (from the Clinton days) for the military, that is exactly what happened. When 'ol bush got elected, seemed that within 6 months everyone had thier own set of NVGs.

Thanks A-hill. I can never remember the designation. We also used the SHITTY *** thermal ones. Can't remember what they were called. We usually mounted them on the 240G and one of us boot SAW gunners would carry the 240. Was WAY too ****ing heavy.

They're not that bad. One time we got called out for an EOD cordon on an cache, there were bottles filled with chemicals in the cache so they made us go back to the JSS and grab our gas masks (which pissed EOD off) so I think I became the first Marine since OIF 1 to drive blackout with a gas mask and PVS-14s on. The Monocle was so far away from my eyes it might as well have been the size of a dime.

We use 14's, with the new PEQ15's on our rifles. The PEQ15 is pretty high-speed gear.

SAW gunners still get 17's, and the PAS13 is still much in use. I like the PAS'....great optics.

We use the PAS-13 w/ .50 on the ABV. My only complaint is it white outs after the first burst.
