Sorry to invade your space Marines but I just have to brag to someone who would appreciate it. The September issue of Leatherneck has my son's squad picture in it! He is with the 1/6 which is the BLT for the 24th MEU currently deployed to Afghanistan.

He's with Alpha Co 1st Plt (the picture says it's 2nd Plt though)and he's a Team Leader.

I got a call from him this past week and he is back BEHIND the wire for the first time since they started their mission at the end of April.

I'm in the process of obtaining several copies of this issue.

No apologies needed. I served with 1/6 Cold Steel during Desert Storm. It is good to hear of another hound from hell taking care of business. The 6th Marines have a quite a history especialy at Belleau Wood during WW1. Semper Fi.

UPDATE: I contacted Leatherneck Magazine about my son's Squad picture being in their September issue and asked how I could purchase some extra issues. They sent me some copies...FOR FREE!

The 1/6 would indeed make you proud as they continue to make history! Their last deployment was to Anbar Province Ramadi, Iraq. They were there for the beginning of the "Awakening" in Ramadi. This was after the "experts" said Anbar was a lost cause and the Marines shouldn't waste their time going there.

They've done it again this deployment in the Garmser district of Helmond Povince, Afghanistan. In the first 35 days of their Operation they had 170 engagements with the enemy. One article I had found said that the 1/6 arrived at a British FOB that the British had held for 2 years but couldn't make any headway against the Taliban. It took the Marines just 96 hours to rout out the Taliban and push them back 6 miles!

To say I am proud of my son and the Marines of the 1/6 would be an understatement!

I want to thank you Marines for allowing this mom to brag about her son here in your house, but I'm sure your mom's would do the same.

I'll admit I have been a "lurker" on here during my son's deployments. To read the comments and "ribbing" between you all has brought me comfort waiting for the few and far between calls from my son as I can imagine he and his Brother's talking to each other the same way.

Thank you for your time, your patience but mostly for your service.

Cathy
A Very Proud Marine Mom
