I've read quite few threads, thoughts, opinions on this board.
I have the lucky-unlucky experience of having been in the Army and the Corps. I will say one thing however, and I don't know for sure but I think both, changed me forever.. I have never, ever regretted one day serving in the Army or the Corps. I see on these threads petty arguments, I'M BETTER, NO I'M BETTER etc... You/we/me call ourselves Veterans. All I see is division. divisiveness amongst Ranks, amongst services, most of all amongst brothers. Do you really think it hurts me more everyday to hear a Sailor, A Marine, A Soldier died in Iraq? Is it any less what service or how many friends he lost? I think we have lost sight of something. I suffer from PTSD and if you don't like it, you think I am weak then guess what F*** you. I do know one thing. Every, and I do mean every bastard risking his *** is my brother. I don't give a S*** if the Army, Air Force, Corps or whatever gives more medals. Stop being petty. USMC Airborne, what Infantry is better, who's CAS is faster or more accurate. Right now I feel one thing. I feel ashamed that my brothers, MY BROTHERS! Cast doubt on eachothers and their willingness to fight and their ability, but most of all their professionalism. Just a drunken rant from a grunt and more who is embarrassed, by himself and his peers. Like it, don't like it but that's what I feel. |

Here's what I think, and sorry if it takes a bit.
While in the Marines we considered the Army and other services undisciplined nasty turds, because their culture is slightly different than that of the Marine Culture. (Ex. They call their Staff Sergeants and Sergeant First Classes simply Sergeant) Their culture doesn't make them nasty or undisciplined it's just different. Also many of us have worked around national guard and reservists who we all lump together as "the Army". In return the Army looks upon the Marines as dumb bullet sponges. They believe they are superior because they fight smarter than us. (They don't deny our fighting spirit, they just think we fight dumb) The reason for all of this is one rivalry. But mostly it is because in order to get men to face down possible death such as combat you have to convince your battalion, company, or entire service branch etc that they are the baddest meanest bastards to ever walk the face of the earth. You can call it esprit de corps, brain washing, denial or whatever. So part of convincing your men that you are the greatest warriors ever is a little bit of bashing on the other guys. That's only natural. A good book about this is called "Steel My Soldiers Hearts" by COl. David Hackworth. He takes a battalion of nasty turd bags and turns them into warriors who were very effective at killing the Viet Cong. A big part of his strategy was convincing them they were walking killing machines and that they were the best. He also uses a catch phrase that helped mold them together as a unit. That is the same purpose of "oorah". People that look down upon the other services usually got a bad taste in their mouth because they worked with a national guard motor t. company and associated them with all other soldiers. The Army is just like the Marine Corps some units are all jacked up and some are "locked cocked ready to rock" (Yes I know I'm a nerd) There are few Army units out there that would straight up own some Marine units in a fight. Anyone that has worked with a proffessional unit from another service has I believe the utmost respect for them. Here's an example I worked with some SF guys a couple of times. Usually on Cordon and Searches/Knocks. Those guys are awsome. Super proffesional and total warriors in every sense. Yet they looked like a bunch of hippies. Longer hair no shaves, even their humvees were different looking. (Because they were allowed to modify them so they were more effective) Yet others that hadn't worked with them would see them come into the chow hall and you could see some of the spit and polish SNCO's and others smirk and shake their heads in disgust because of what they looked like. I guarantee you they made an opinion that all Army guys are turds from that encounter. Yet if it came down to it those "dirty hippies" would own them in a gun fight. Nelson your right people shouldn't rip on an entire service they should complain about a unit or an individual. Also sometimes people (me included) just like to complain and talk some shite. We have all formed opinions about other branches and mostly that was because of being told were the best no matter what. Then we get out into the world and work with some of those units or what not and realize that damn those guys are warriors just like me and their also pretty damn good at their job. So I wouldn't worry to much about people complaining. I only worry when people stop complaining. |

Here is what I think. There has always been bantering between the Army, the Navy, the Marine Corps and the Air Force, and even the Coast Guard! And, when there is not bantering between the different services, there is bantering within the different services in the different specialties, as well as the different units of the same specialties. We do this based on competitiveness, or out of down right meanness.
We all die just the same if we are struck by a bullet or a piece of metal, and we all are family. No one here gets to choose his relatives, only in the case of marriage, and often times that is not what we are looking at when we marry. We don't have to like them or what they do, but we can always make fun of them. So, what is your point? You don't think that a Marine would put down his life for an Airman? Or, a Soldier would not stand in front of a Sailor to protect him? In both cases you are wrong, but will they make fun of each other and criticize them, you bet your bippy they will! And, when a fight breaks out in a bar, you can be sure that most will stick to his service members in the fight. It is just the way we are! And...if you don't like that, I'll give you the number for the Padre! |

Joe i've read a number of your posts. Suffice it to say you do nothing more than stir s***.
You are unprofessional, childish, and don't even know how to spell Punji, it's not not panji sticks. If I remember your quotes correctly. As far as i am concerned you hijacked another Marines experiences. If I have misquoted or mistaken you for someone else who has repeatedly said 'panji' sticks when we all know they were called 'Punji' sticks please correct me. and before you run your suck about givin' me the number to the padre you better have yer s**t straight poser. |

Think my typing is bad? You should see my penmanship. |
Nelson I would say maybe you have not read enough of his posts and start apoligizing now before you embarrass yourself!
He has already been vetted and earned his right to say wtf he wants here. Also as far as all the BS goes as far as different branches etc its all competition and always good to see the comraderie that goes with it. When I served if we had no Army dogs to fight he** it became fire team against fire team etc its just the way things are and probably always will be. Marines love challenge and a good fight its in our blood!!! And in the end hey I respect every guy out there but it does not mean I wont grief ya |

I have no myspace.com account that I am aware of, and I can assure you, I have been down this road with idiots like you, as well, I always come out on top, because I have nothing to hide. I don't know about your knowledge of Vietnam, but when I was there, they sure as hell were Panji Stakes! Are you now fishing for real Marine stories to take as your own, Sport? That sure sounds terrible when someone says that doesn't it? |

With all due respect Nelson, you would not know a panji stake if someone came up and jammed you in the *** with it. You are welcome to read my stories, and should you have criticism of them, I invite you to write to my personal e-mail, careypi@juno.com In the meantime, I wish you all good thoughts, and good outcomes of whatever you are involved in. Most respectfully, Joe Carey
he's full of crap. obviously by his private little e-mail. Slammin other people whatever their MOS or service is not what professionals do in my opinion. Also if you note he constantly usues foul language and tries to belittle other service members. Once again it's Punji not Panji any Vietnam vets wanna weigh in on that or am I mistaken? |

My dear young man, that is the magic of the computer world. The world of words is at the fingertips of anyone with a keyboard. As far as what I did as a PI for 35 years, that is a matter of public record, and newspaper articles, and even commendations from the Chief of Police. You go figure heh? What's a guy to do that gets out of the Marines because of wounds and he does not want to work for some idiot in an office the rest of his life. Well, I found the answer! Yeah, I was in deed one busy guy! And the funny thing is, I never used a firearm in my work again for all those years. |
