Trigg,

Call your 0311 moniter dude. You can get the number via recruiter or usmc.mil.

He can give you the straight scoop if you want to bypass your recruiters, because that can take a long time.

I have been out for 2 1/2 years (since June 2005) and check into 3/8 March 5. It is gonna be wierd at first, getting back into the groove of things. I am actually excited to go back though.

I am sure I will be thinking different when I am back out in the field cold and wet.

I have a buddy who got out with me, then reenlisted 6 months ago and is now with 3/6. He said that the Marine Corps has changed big time. He was tellin me that shit is way more lax than it was when we were in. He said that I will be shocked.

The moniter said that we are scheduled to go to Iraq in Aug/Sept. Once I get back, I may try to get a spot as an Instructor at SOI east. Who knows...

Hey this is sorta off topic but I had a question for big green weenie. How'd you go about re-enlisting from the IRR with the monitor instead of through a recruiter? I don't know if I'm ready to jump back into camis again quite yet but I've been thinking about it

Congrats trigg and I wish after my kids move out whom I love very much and after reading the gunny story of the semi disabled vet I could go back in trust me!!!

The Corps was my life when I served and is still as much a part of my life as if it were yesterday but I had two goals as a teenager and I have accomplished them both!

One trying out and becoming a Marine to serve my country honorably and two to raise a family one day and see them all off and Im bout done with goal two and when that day comes I will revert back to what I was best at and that was soldiering and leading etc.

Semper Fi for making your decisions and living your dream and hope it all works out for the best for you.

You should have a prior service recruiter nearby, he can reenlist you or you can visit a regular recruiter, if going back to active duty.

MaDuece13,

Here is what you do (to go back Active Duty)---

1.) See a regular recruiter in your hometown.

2.) Bring with you your DD-214.

3.) They will start the process to see if you
are qualified for reenlistment.

4.) You will go to MEPS a few weeks later for
another physical.

5.) They will send off your PSEP package
(prior service reenlistment package).

6.) Wait 4-6 weeks for approval/disaproval.

7.) If approved, they will send you to MEPS
one last time to sign your contract and
swear in. You are now on Active Duty.

8.) The same day you swear into Active Duty,
you will drive to the RS (main recruiting
station for that area, like the HQ or some
sh*t) and get put into the payroll.

9.) Wait a week for everything to get put into
the system (call the RS to make sure), then
go to your nearest I&I Reserve center and
get your new ID card.

10.)They will tell you that their Admin shop
will contact a moniter to pick your next
duty station and MOS (You will fill out a
wish list). To expidite the process, call
call the moniter yourself. The Admin shops
can take anywhere up to 6 weeks to get your
orders.

11.)Once you established contact with your
moniter and are satisfied with what you are
getting, then your orders should reach your
RS in the next week. Your recruiters should
call you to let you know when your orders
arrive, when you need to report out of the
RS, and when to report into your new unit.

12.)When the time comes, go to RS and report out
to the Sergeant Major.

13.)Depending on where you will be going and if
you have dependents moving with you, you
get a moving allowance and travel time.

14.)Report into your next duty station.

----The whole process (from day 1) can take between 5-9 weeks. You need to take into account your previous RE code (reenlistment code), any new injuries or health problems, new tattoos that may go against new regs, waiver possibilities, changing MOS's, etc...

All of the above can extend your reenlistment process.

If you want to go Reserves, then you need to see a prior service recruiter. He only does reserves, not active.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck.

Thank for the help brotha, I really appreciate it. I was wondering about where you mentioned the part about them picking your MOS.I would think right now it should pretty easy getting back into the 03 field somewhere, especially for returning grunts. Are you going back into 03 or did they lat move you?

I went back 0311 without a problem. You should be able to say to the moniter...
"Gunny, I want 1/2 in Lejeune" or "2/3" in HI" or" Gunny, tell me who is going to Iraq soon, I wanna go" and you should get it.

I basicly said to my 0311 moniter "Gunny, can you tell me wgo is going tp Iraq in the next 6 months in Lejeuene?" and he said "3/8 is planning on goin in Aug/Sept, want it?"

If you left it up to your admin shop at the RS, they may sit on it, take their time, or get you the fist place that they have.

It is just that easy.

Trigg

$28,800 worth...

For a Sgt 0311 to reenlist, the bonus is $48,000 or something along nthat line. But because I had a break in service, I get 60% of that. Not bad.

I will get this bonus 30 days after I hit the fleet.

Trigg, are you a Cpl? You will get a bonus if you keep your MOS 0311. It may be like $30,000-$35,000 maybe. Talk to your recruiter about it and don't let him B.S. you.
