Hey Trigg, what's wrong with being fat and nasty? Good luck to you.

By the way, what Company were you in 3/1? And what's SASO?

I was a Raider in 3/1... and uhh.. SASO is MOUT with a smile... but it really is a really good course you are required to goto before going to iraq... I went to the one at March AFB, but now SASO is done at 29 stumps.. For a week you have to live in a fake city in a firm base, stand guard and react to the local populous which is acted out by Marines(fully decked out like iraqis) and some iraqi americans.. Anyways good course and i would like to spread my vast knowledge to those not as experienced as i..

Apollo i was just like you for about 3 1/2 years of my first enlistment... Couldnt wait... counting the days.. Having fun with my brothers, doing lots of different stuff and learning cool stuff like how to blow things up ect... but for some reason i hated it.. I just wanted to be free and go home and hang with my "real life" friends and when u get back...

You go to work, get off, eat, go to sleep... for 5-6 days straight, every week... you have lots of bills that build up.. pretty soon u have to buy safeway select pop, and value foods to stay alive..

i make pretty decent money for someone without a college degree and only a year out of the Marines.. But the life style i want and the lifestyle i can afford are 2 different things.. I havnt bought really anything for myself in 6 months.

Plus, When u go home... U feel proud about what you've done.. everyone always calls you Marine, Always reminds you that every day and every week goes by is distancing you further and further from that.. pretty soon everyone will forget about it and u will just be a normal person to everyone.. When u get out, you will see what im talking about...

Just remember, I too was like you before i got out..

When i get back in... Lets all go to stampede.. I miss that bar

I know what you mean Trigg. Don't know how many young Marines I have told to stay where you are. They don't know how good they have it. They think that life out side the Corps is all rose's. LOL then you get out and see that the grass isn't so green on this side. You see just how much Uncle Sam was giving you. Like housing, food, medical...

Those sh*tty times become the "good times". Like how you now can look back, with a beer in hand, and say, "Man, that OP sure did suck...It was so fucking Hot/cold/hungry/thirsty/etc." and then laugh about it.

None of the friends you will have in the Civ world will understand that fucked up kind of humor that only grunts have. THAT is what I miss most. Cracking jokes about women, prostitution, and underage high school girls is bad ju-ju in the Civ workplace and on a college campus. Big Grin

Funny I mentioned that because as I type this i'm at FT. Benning finishing up Javelin Missile School---but I watch Jump school going on everyday across the street and I get jealous.

But whatever, rumor mill is buzzing about a possible late-08 Iraq deployment. If rumors turn out to be true, then I'll i'm heading off the OCS to get a butter bar. No freaking way I'm going to Iraq at my current rank in my current unit. These fucktards are dangerously incompetent.

But yeah, the Civ world is nice. College is, no sh*t, a fucking BLAST. Wink I reccommend going even if just for a few semesters while you're still young to bang some of those young and dumb girls. I could go on and on about that.......
But I do miss the active duty sh*t alot. Mostly your friends and the lifestyle. Maybe we'll bump into each other one day and I can buy ya a shot of 151 to take the edge off the day...

That is true, but you need to see a prior service recruiter as far as I know. We received three NCO's from the IRR back in May. They all saw the prior service recruiter also.

I know the feeling, civie life is boring compared to life in the Corps. If I had it to do over again I would've signed the papers they put in front of me. So if your a short timer think long and hard as you leap over those cracks in the deck and rappel down those irish pennets.

Guns UP!

Trigg, be aware. Although you may be allowed to keep your rank, you will likely loose all the time in grade you had previously. Also, they are going to send you right to a line company that is headed out. Not necessarily on a combat deployment, but it would seem likely with your experience that's where they would put you.

What do you have against the reserves?

Depending on the unit you may have a while till they deploy. If you want to train Marines, no better than a bunch of nasty boots who only get the chance to do it once a month.

Plus alot of the guys are either Cops or other federal agencies so you can get some references if you want to take that job route...

Talk to a PSR. The "needs of the Corps" are always changing, you never know where they want people unless you ask.

But you were cool right?

I can't imagine how many great Marines with potential to now be be great Gunny's failed to stay in because of peer pressure.

You're very fortunate as you have learned who YOU are very shortly after getting out, and can restart your career early in life.

Hey, that's not entirely true.

There were plenty of fucktards that re-enlisted despite constant harassment by short-timers such as myself.

The problem that makes "great" Marines pop smoke and say "fuck you" to the Corps after 4 years is the bullshit/backstab factor.

Why, as a Cpl. or Sgt. would you want to stay in another 6-8 years putting up with B.S. that the lifers and officers constantly spew..... just to make it to gunny in time to find out that either:

1.) You don't care anymore and you find that you can't REALLY make a huge difference anyway
or
2.) You've turned into one of those pe*is-faced lifers yourself and the cycle begins anew.

That would make absolutely no sense.
