That's good sh*t man. Not a lot of us have gone that route. How did the MCAT go? I have a girl"friend" here that is doing pre-med and she says its a royal b*tch.

I took the GRE (for my grad school apps) a while back, it was rough. I can imagine how the MCAT is. Last i checked, it was around $400 just to sign up for it.

Not MBA. Master of Science in Geology. Going the Petroleum route. Might opt for a little cross training on the diamond/mineral ore mining side of the house. That stuff interests me.

My safety grad school is Texas State---I've already applied and been accepted there. Grad school is free for me (and you) in Texas via the Hazelwood Act. I had some connections and I have an interview with people from Stanford in the upcoming weeks.

Good on you.

I am in H town. Hope you get out in time to ride this current petroleum wave. Buddy of mine did the same as you but got out a few years back. Needless to say he is doing quite well now.

Good luck.

Thanks. Been doing some research along with talking to some other geologists and it seems that the current market for oil is not cooling down anytime soon. Some contributors to this is the fact that China and India are industrializing (among others). So, unless someone invents a cheap, enviro-friendly cold-fusion device in the next decade I feel pretty good about employment opportunities.

By the way, if you're looking for an MBA, i think TX ST has a program........and a 6:1 girl:guy ratio. Many GREAT weekends started out in San Marcos.

Apollo please don't turn out to be like the geologists that work in the oil field!

Check soil samples once every hour and biiotch when its cold raining etc as were drilling in the crap for hours/days/months on end then have the tenacity to come tell me his generator ran outta gas and his trailer has no power!!!

Guess what I told him as I was soaked and freezing my arse off.

Your telling me you went to college so you could find gas and oil miles under ground but you cannot seem to locate a gosh daaaaaammm gas can within feet of your trailer!!!!!!!

I suggested he backtrack and find one before he loses all his education in one punch lol.

Of course all us roughnecks stick together and help those who deserve it but we will not tolerate that bs.

So Go to work with work clothes not a suit or you may end up a casualty before you get started if you go the oil/gas route and good luck with your career whichever you choose and the oil field is pretty busy and has been for quite some time.

Stan,
Most of the Geologist I have met that have oilfield/petro experience didn't seem that way to me. Of course they have been in the biz for 30+ years so I imagine they have had enough time to straighten out. That guy you described sounds like a "boot", pardon the jarhead lingo.

Most of the jobs I want to do involve the data interpretation side of the house. I was recently talking to a guy who's entire job merely consisted of working 10-4:30 in an office where he interprets electroconductivity printouts from well-logs. In essence he tells the driller to go left, right, etc.etc.
He made 75Gs/year doing that.
