every unit has its strengths and weakness-even yours,
I do not judge .....do you?

Dont throw the chairs -they are your friends

Of course the NG is not as locked on as your unit,it better not be.Were you in and around habbinayah and Camp Fallujah in 2006? I saw 3/5 in your profile.......we ran our Bradleys with you guys.

No one is special there or better I would think you would know that first hand.
Jarheads running missions with Dogfaces is as normal as peanut butter and jelly there

Negative ghost rider! Depends on the unit. The Guard unit near us was not nearly as locked on as us, and don't even get me started on the 82nd, I'll start throwing chairs. But, the 101st is pretty awsome. Those guys are good.

I know why u got out of the Marines... Because of Sgt Major Vines(I dunno how u spell it) I went to Diwaniah in OIF 1 for the DM course and that dude was a ****in psycho

That guy is crazy. I almost started a thread titled "Scariest SNCO you ever met" because I know that I would have won hands down. That is the loudest man on the earth hands down.

True story in 2002 when we were in Hong Kong he was waiting to get on the little boat that takes you out to the ship. Well this super drunk Marine for whatever reason hated him and started yelling F-U Sergeant Major I'm going to F'ing kill you. Luckily for that kids sake his buddies whisked him away. I mean that man is huge he could easily kill a bear.

Another funny story is that when he left us his next post was MALS-13 which is an airwing unit in Yuma. Poor wingers.

Oh sorry you ever had to go to Diwaniah. That is by far the most retched nasty horrible place on earth.

You guys were at Hillah/Babylon weren't you?

No I don't judge others. Like you said every unit is different. I think I was drunk and wanted to argue. I remember in OIF II the Guard unit there wouldn't listen and learn and lost alot of guys. It was kind of sad. I got out in Jan of 2005 so I wasn't there.

At school most of my friends are prior-service guys that range from NG infantry to some Rangers. My ROTC instructor is SF guy so I've kind of calmed down in the we're the best at everything mindset. I've realized that there's alot of different missions out there and some are better at certain missions than others. However, that being said I still believe that as far as conventional units go there isn't a more effective fighting force on the planet than a Marine infantry battalion.

Not to bash the other branches, but a leatherneck's awards are TRUELY earned. And I believe that's just another factor making our Corps the most elite. I'm absolutely proud of that. Besides, awards don't make the Marine. If I spent my entire career busting my hump for awards, made the set criteria for them, and wasn't awarded them, I wouldn't care less. It's all for Duty, Honor, and Country. OOHRA

I will concur with you. The Marine infantry battalion is wickedly bad ***, NO DOUBT!

Joe, are you sure that article was talking strictly about Iraq? I only ask because I know of several AFC's awarded to USAF special ops who went into Afghanistan with Army SF right after 9-11-01. These might be the ones mentioned in the article, which was dated December 2003. It usually takes awhile (at least a year)for medals that high to get approved.

Yeah... If u remember when 1/4 and everyone went to Diwaniah, it was like upper 130's... and about 80% of us ended up being heat casualties.. (Its kinda weird when everyone wonders away from the firing lines...) and when we got back to the camp... we would get *****ed at by him (in 1/4 we got our haircuts every wednesday) and he was like on his tip toes "I DONT KNOW WHY THE **** U DEVILDOGS DONT HAVE HAIRCUTS!!!! IM GONNA HAVE A LITTLE CHAT WITH YOUR SGT MAJOR!!!! AAAHHHHHH ERRRRRR ILL KILL YOU!!!!"

I was like... thank god im in 1/4... worst 4 days ever

Yeah, hillah... When i look back on those times... we would have gotten ****ed up if an ied hit... no armor whatsoever

Yeah Diwaniah sucked really bad. We used to call it Ad Diarreah because everyone got this really nasty flu where everyone **** and puked their guts out. Later on we were told that like 70% of guys that were there got that flu. The only thing that was nice about that place was when 3rd LAR was there. Otherwise that place was straight up gay. Were you in Diwaniah when that ammo dump nearby blew up with secondaries for like 3 hours?

Some of us got sent to Babylon for awhile. That place was awsome. I had a conversation with Bravo 1/4's First Sergeant. I'm pretty sure that guy hates me. When I say a conversation I mean a full grown man screaming in my face close enough that even the personal bubble of an Arab would have been violated.

I saw a sailor on the 31st MEU get straight up owned by Sgt Major Vines. You know how in the hallways there's those spots sort of like the size of a small elevator where in order to open one door you have to close the otherone. Well Sgt Major Vines pulled this poor sailor into one of those (holding up traffic both ways)and just went to town on this guy. I'm pretty sure those things are almost sound proof but you could easily understand every syllable coming out of that guys mouth. I'm pretty sure that sailor had to wipe is *** afterwords. I know I almost did and I wasn't even the one getting yelled at.

Yeah i was in Camp Habbiniyah, but we lived out in the village about 10 miles down the road around 6 clicks away from Ramadi. We didn't roll with the Army..course i was in 3/2. Only time we saw the Army was when we came back to the camp (which was once a month for a day or two) to shower and buy dip. Also, saw them when they shot at us cause they thought we were the enemy...real winners there.

The only thing I ever saw the Army doing in Iraq was playing Softball on Camp Ramadi.

Actually MJ, Hackworth died in May 05, and I know the article appeared in October, but it could have been a typo as to the year on my part when I wrote it into my notes. In reality, you are probably correct, it could have been written in 04, instead of 03. The file I had it written into has been up dated so many times with other articles that the file date is the last entry made. It very well could be my typo on the year.

As a matter of fact, in 2006, a friend of mine that is retired from the AF, had read an article in the local Davis-Monthan AFB newsprint, that there was some hell raised about the quality of medals handed out in the AF, as all the AF pilots, even for one sorte were awarded the BSM in their attack on Baghdad, but I never heard much about it after that, and when I asked him for a copy of the paper, he could not find it. Even an attempt to contact the paper went unanswered when I contacted them via e-mail. Later, I just forgot about it.

I remember we went to TQ one time to get some supplies and the Army was building a damn POOL there. I was like what the hell. When do you have time to take a swim?

if the Army pulled out of Iraq you guys would be toast in less then a week, you hate to admit it but you know it would be true.
I spent plenty of nights over watching Michigan so when your tank thunder runs blew by there were no roadside bombs (or Less) of course you had no idea we were there.
And if by chance someone did spot us thru an ELRASS they were more then happy to pop off a few 240 or M2 rounds at us so save your biased opinion because your not half as informed as you think you are.
90% percent of the Marines I knew had no clue how to load a radio or use the BFT.

Of course man, you guys are the occupiers. We only have Al Anbar province, which has made a complete 180 turn around compared to what it used to be like.

I got no beef wth Army grunts, just the softball playing, swimming in the pool POGs.

And I would hope that you let a friendly unit know that you are out there, Blue on Blue = moo zien. Wink
