What's the story on the next generation automatic rifle? I saw a story a year or so ago about a SAW replacement which was actually an AR along the lines of the old BAR. The magazine was 100 or less and it was much lighter than the SAW. Having carried the SAW and done a fine job with it, I'm still in favor of getting something new. As strong as you are, an actual automatic rifle would be quicker in all kinds of environments and more in line with '11s work.
You talking about the MK-46 or something totally different?
When I was still the supply guy in 2nd Ranger battalion they replaced the SAW with the MK-46, a smaller, lighter equally tuff and effective version of the SAW....This thing is pretty cool because of how small it is...
We also got the MK-48 which was a side kick to the M240...
I've heard about the Mk 46 and 48. Apparently it is used by special forces but I don't think the Marine Corps would adopt it. The SAW has the magazine well but nobody really uses it, but there is some brass which has deemed it important. My main issue with the weapon was the piece of shit plastic drum they expected us to keep forever. Maybe things are different now but that thing is good for reloading when on the attack, not for patrols or anything else.
The one I'm talking about is something entirely different: drum (as in metal drum) fed with a winder, not belt fed. I'll have to look through my old gun magazines to find it.....
thrust I think the Marine Corps should adopt the MK46 and the MK48. They are both light and far more mobile than the current 249 and 240. Like I said before my buddy used the MK46 in the Rangers and loved it. It was super light, just as accurate and way better when it came to room clearing.
Now at farther ranges the MK46 probably isn't as accurate as the SAW so maybe a requirement to have interchangeble barrels would be nice. Such as a normal barrel for convoy or defensive stuff and then for MOUT stuff put on the shorter barrel. Just my .02
No I don't watch much TV. I once flipped it on there and it had some documentary glorifying some nazi twink boy shooting Americans at Normandy, while the Americans all looked like a bunch of unshaved unprofessional cartoons. No interest in watching that kind of crap
If you had to hump that around I dought youd ever get cold and need snivel gear. I'm pretty sure you'd need water though. If you were reacting to contact you'd only need that guy for your support by fire element. Everyone else could be part of the assault element. I think 6,000 rounds per minute would be some decent covering fire.
I tried to find a picture of Jesse Ventura firing this thing in themovie predator but I suck when it comes to the internet world. Alas, this is all I could find.
Any you guys ever read the original book Starship Troopers? Now them boys were packin some real firepower, tac nukes, full armor from head to toe flamethrowers now that's the way to go into a firefight hehe.
