It all depends on whats going on in the World. When we went on my first float they didn't have enough Battle Space in Iraq for us so we trained in Jordan, Djibouti Africa and Kuwait, and then the Israelis and Hezbollah started killing each other so we had to evacuate Americans out of Lebanon.

That's Mr. HollywoodMarine to you. |
Last time I heard it was in 2006, and it may now go under a different name. If you are at Camp Lejeune, you will be able to see their building by the French Creek Rec-Center. |

So 1/8 did an amphibious N.E.O in Lebanon now thats some good Marine History.Too bad the 8th Marines didn't get some target practice on those Hezbolha(or however you spell their retarded group)The 8th Marines owe them a nice beatdown from October 23, 1983.Your MEU will probably receive the Marine Corps Expetionary Medal.I know it's been since the last summer. |

I'm not dumber than a sack of hammers. I'm a sack of nails. |
THE MEU's still deploy in their traditional fashion. Not many have been making their way into Iraq recently. Marine infantry units have been out of Afghanistan for while. There is continued speculation about a return. |

I don't have a clue as to why no MEUS have been to Afghanistan lately. |

Although I am not really qualified to speculate, I will give my personal opinion. The MEU are designed to act as a rapid response force to an emerging crisis. It's better to keep them at sea and/or training so they'll be available in case the need to be used in an emergency. |

Well i just got off the 15th MEU with 2/4 and we were sent right into iraq for 3 months...PLUS two great 45 day extensions. With MEU's its just a matter when and where they need you. But dont be surprised when they ask you to get off the ship and go play in the sand box

Do you know what company you will be in over at 2/4? One of my boys is over there and I've been trying to get a hold of him. He's in Fox company, 2nd platoon I beleive.

The last MEU to hit Afghanistan was the 22 MEU in 04 "Off The Boat And All The Way!!".

I'm going to Afghanistan with 24 MEU. We aren't even floating over. Hopefully we'll float back.
I know that there was a MEU in Iraq recently (11 or 15 I believe) and the pervious east coast MEU (26 I think) was going to the Persian Gulf but diverted to do a NEO mission. So, to answer your question, it looks like MEUs are definitely headed into theater, but that doesn't mean they can't and won't be diverted to do MOOTW. "Common sense was an uncommon virtue" |
