Afternoon to all of you on the forums. I have a question for yall obviously. What is your opinion on the reserves? I don't know anything about them. I was thinking of what I wanted to do after I EAS. The options that came into my head were to either reup another 2 or 4 years. But the option I'm leaning towards is to get into the reserves and go back and finish college and then go back to the fleet afterwards. Once again, what are yalls past or present opinions/experiences with the reserves? Thanks gentlemen have a good one.

That's Mr. HollywoodMarine to you. |
As it is on AD, the ammonut of training, motivation, etc. will vary per unit and on its chain of command. I had a positive experience when I arrived with G/2/23 in late 2003. At least 20% had AD experience, and 80% of the reservist had combat experience when they were with RCT-1. There were many college students, and at least 10 of those Marines were working on earning a commission.

Thanks for your opinion. I've been leaning toward doing that after this enlistment is over. Do you recommend starting taking a few classes a year or so before I EAS?

If time and your chain of command permit it, go for it!

If you can get those classes knocked out go for it. You know as well as anybody else it's nearly impossible to do while on AD. Some of the best AD grunts go reserve simply for that reason then come back to the fleet. In my opinion though why get college done if your not intending to go officer? might as well leap for it right?
