Just graduated from boot friday. 29 year old reserve. On my way to SOI in a week. Thanks for the advise given on this page. I do have a question. My unit just got activated in Sept. I probably wont be back from SOI until late Dec. My unit is scheduled to go over around Jan. What will I do when I get back from SOI with my unit gone? Will I train with another unit and get deployed with them? Thanks for the help.
You are more than likely to report to your HTC at a running start. Meaning, once you report to your I&I, you will have to get your "check-in sheet" filled out, update your SRB, fill out a Powers of Attorney, Will, Next of Kin, pack your things, say your hellos and good byes all in a short period of time.
Welcome aboard Marine! Congradulations on graduating and a job well done. Hollywood is right, you're on the way and very lucky to get your first deployment out of the way early in your career. Listen up in SOI because you'll need most of what you learn there to survive combat. Again, congrads and welcome aboard.
Never forget the Grunt's best phrase while receiving incoming - "DUCK!" Ha ha ha. Best of luck Devil Dawg. Stay safe out there and come home to us in one piece.
Hollywood Marine how can I get attached to my Unit without the training they are getting right now at Camp Pendleton? I thought that training was mandatory before deployment? Will my SOI training count instead of what they are doing? I am going to call my first Sergeant on Monday to see what he has to say about it, I am just anxious to hear what others think i guess. I am 2-24 out of Des Moines. I am not sure where they are heading or if since we are reserves we will get to play as much as active duty or not. Only time will tell I guess. Any advice on things to come is appreciated.
