Negative AHILL. (read some Marine history) I want to give a special tribute to the motarmen of India Co. 3/26. They saved Kilo Company from being overrun on Hill 861, Jan. 20th 1968 These guys are freak'in heros. These combat Marines shall be treated with respect. In the words of Cpt. Bill Dabney...These men are awesome.

I know Fuzz, I only said that because due to the current ROEs in Iraq, Mortarmen don't do anything in their MOS. I wasn't trying to offend you or any other Grunt here. Thats why I used " ".
After our mortar hump a couple weeks ago I developed a new found appreciation for mortarmen. 81's are quite possibly the worst thing in the world to hump around...but I haven't humped Mk19's or 50's yet.
Same here in GWI. We shot a total of about 10 rounds out of each platoons gun when we got alittle close to the Republican Guard during ground combat but that was it the whole time. Mostly, Air, Arty and Rifles back then.

A buddy of mine with 2/2 in the 1991 Gulf War said his 81's platoon was clearing bunkers just like the line companies. Like you said, they had so much indirect firepower from air and arty that they didn't need the guns.
