Hello,
First off I'd like to take a second and say thank you all for being MARINES.

My Grand Mother past away this last DEC and I found out that my Grand Father was a marine during WWII. I can not find records of his service (record center in St. Louis burned down in the 60's some time). I know he serviced in the Philippines but I don't know with what unit or his rank or awards. I was given his casket flag and his dress green wool combination cover. I want to honor him with a shadow box and repair his cover and place it with my Coast Guard combination cover. I am an GMCS (E8) with the Coast Guard serving in the Norfolk, VA area. My Grand Fathers name is Merwin Brakeville. If anybody can help me find out any information, it would be greatly appreciated.

The fire was in 1973. Marine Corps records were not affected.

Army Personnel discharged November 1, 1912, to January 1, 1960 80% of the records lost in the fire

Air Force Personnel discharged, September 25, 1947, to January 1, 1964
(with names alphabetically after Hubbard, James E.) 75% of the rocords lost in the fire

Hello:
I'm a former Marine Sargeant and Retired Coast Guard Chief. St Louis is the best source and after you get his DD214 the next stop is Medals Of America for your shadow board. Just had one done for my Father in Law he was a tail gunner in a B24 Liberator. Good Luck. Semper Fi & Semper Paratus.petetor@msn.com
