FYI he was a damned ****bag when he was in. This **** ****es me off so much! I support free speech and all, but Im very curious to know your thoughts on IVAW.

I don't see why anyone would pay any attention to IVAW or use any energy trying to oppose them. Like nearly all such groups they represent such an infinitesimal fraction of their population that their opinion is rather insignificant. Individuals with their mindset are like any other brand of conspiracy theorist. You can yell, scream, argue, debate, etc for the rest of eternity and they will continue to believe what they want to believe and make excuses for why they are right.
I stopped caring a while ago as there are better things to do. And yes I know exactly what they have done, in fact they came to my school not too long ago.
Funky's right, war has different effects on different people so this guy is living proof of that. No matter how you feel, he earned the right to speak his piece so you may want to accept it at that and move on.
As for disrespecting your unit, that's a big no no so you may want to pull him aside and remind him that you're both Marines and he's not giving your in-country Bros the same respect he demands for himself.
If he's a fellow Grunt he'll snap too when you remind him yaw'l paid the price too and if he's not or doesn't listen to reason, there's always behind the hootch where you "educate him" with a few knowledge knots. Somethings never change Bro.
Unfortunately while all of us know that these guys are a very small minority of veterans and WE know that the majority of these guys were the d-bags of the units others do no. The majority of civilians don't know the difference.
Whether we like it or not the anti's drag these guys out and their opinion has alot of pull and authority. People believe what they say and believe what ever BS they spill. They **** me of because their opinions make the new while your opinion and my opinion would never make the news.
I had a buddy that was probably the most gung ho devil in the Corps. I googled him one day to try and locate him to catch up on old times. After a little research, found out he went to college as some sort of political major, and was leading all sorts of anti-war rally's in his home town. Needless to say we didn't catch up on old times. Freakin' slime!
There are all kinds of people in that group that I have either met or read of. Some undoubtedly were the unit d-bags you speak of, some are probably there for the attention, some are just trying to ***** out their military background to make a political statement and never left the states. At the same time there are some who did multiple combat tours, did their time honorably and now choose to voice their opinion in an activist group against the war. I don't have much respect for the methods they use to propagate that opinion but I respect their right to have it. I try hard not to judge people with broad strokes as you never know what someone's individual background is or why they feel a certain way.
That being said, there are some real specimens within their membership. I have read one guy ranting about how the US entering WW2 was part of a massive conspiracy to take over the world, then another kid claimed he got PTSD from standing guard duty at 8th & I. Not even mentioning the Jesse Macbeth fiasco (Wiki it).

Brandon, next time use the heel of your hand, less stress on the wrist if you get a little sideways.
