In Nam they sometime used them if they suspected they were tunnels. I was never one, thank God but these were special breed of Marines. The gooks were small so the "trap" doors were small as well as the crawl space that was very dark. Most of the time it was "booby" trapped with a gook waiting at the end to blow your brains. It took courage to be crawling around in no man's land. Any former tunnel rats?
