Greetings,
I would like some up to date information on current USMC small arms training. Specifically on how much time is spent in USMC basic training on rifle marksmanship and what is the current qualification coarse, I know it is very similar to the NRA national match course. I need this information prior to making a proper reply to a posting on the Army side of the house. BTW, I personally consider the USMC to be the leader of all the service branches. Mainly because of the emphasis on the importance of KD rifle marksmanship training.

I’ll check back later for your input.

Many Thanks,
IC2SS19Z50C5

I remember there being a "grass week" (practicing proper shooting stances/techniques--and the actual qual week (the week you actually shoot on the range. 2 weeks total.

The course, if I remember correctly is:

standing slow fire--200 yards (?) 5 rounds (?)

kneeling slow fire--200 yards (?) 5 rounds (?)

Sitting slow fire--200 yards (?) 5 rounds (?)

300 yard rapid fire--10 rounds

crap, i forgot what happens after that.....

Oh yea, theres the 500 yard slow fire 10 rounds.

Damn that seems like a long time ago...

I'm sure someone will be around that knows it all for sure.

Matt AKA _Apollo_,
Thanks for the input. Very similar to the U.S. Army's original coarse of fire for the 45-70 Trapdoor Springfield. See Link below:

Matt, if you are interested, go to page four of the PDF in the above link.

Thanks again for the input. BTW, you need to spend more time studying and less time with the ladies, as your profile picture shows... But they do look like they may be worth it….

There is also a 10 rd Rapid from the sitting at the 200. (the 300 rapid is prone as is the 500)and a 5 rd slow fire sitting at the 300
The corps appearently went back to the 250 pt system instead of the hit or miss we had for the last decade or so.

Glad to hear the USMC has returned to a more measureable system of scoring. It rewards success and shows mediocity as it should be shown.

Thanks for the feedback.
