NATIONAL SECURITY CUTTER COMPLETES PROPULSION DOCK TRIALS

Pascagoula, Miss. (October 29, 2007) – USCGC Bertholf (WMSL 750) completed successful propulsion dock trials at the Northrop Grumman Ship Systems facility in Pascagoula last week. This is the latest milestone for the first National Security Cutter (NSC) as it prepares for machinery trials later this year.

The dock trials were conducted to prove the ship’s propulsion train, which consists of the engines, combining gear, shafts, and propellers. During the two weeks of testing , the team ran the two MTU main propulsion diesel engines, the LM 2500 General Electric gas turbine engine and engaged the Renk main reduction gear. The diesel engines ran at both maneuvering and cruise mode up to a third load.

“It was a very successful two weeks of tests,” said John Donnaway, ship program manager, NSC 1. “It is exciting to see the ship come to life as we prepare for machinery trials in the coming months.”

Construction of Bertholf is currently more than 90 percent complete.

Thanks for the update Chief Muldowney, looks like the hard work of yourself and the crew is starting to pay off! Now the real question is when does your shop get to test all your new toys? -Jeff

don't think so...ATG San Diego will be coming to visit us and work through the RFS/RFO process. We won't have an official CART until later...we don't know the exact date yet. If you (ATGLANT/Mayport)come to visit, it will be because ATG San Diego asks you to.
will be glad to share info, but ya' have to ask the right questions. I'm in global if you so desire
