So, I couldnt really find the answer to my question.

I was looking at the billets list for the FY08 and it had one on there for WMSL bravo crew.

Whats that supposed to mean? you have two identicale crews, but only one go out at a time?

I remember a Master Chief mentioned something about this like 4 or 5 years ago, but my memory is fading.

Anyone know? I am curious and I would appreciate your help.

Bravo crew means that you will be precom for hull 2 when it is complete. But yes there will be 4 identical crews here in Alameda and will partake in the Crew rotation concept. If you have any more questions please e-mail me or call me.

That is how the Navy does many of their ships, but from what I saw on a video the Bertholf doesn't need very many crew to operate. Less crew than a 378.

Sort of...the USN "sea swap" program has been discontinued with a mixed bag of results. Keep in mind this initiative was used on ships going into mothballs/decom status with (from my information) a lot of the maintainace (aside form keeping the ship flaoting) defered. How this is rotation concept is going to ACTUALLY work with brand new platforms with heavy type specific qualifications is IMHO a question that won't be answered until it's implemented.

SOME USN experimental and proof of concept ships are doing something similar, but the vast majority of the combatant grey hull fleet is single crew.

Actually, almost all of the USNs trials were multiple crew/single ship concepts. The ground we are really breaking here is that ours is a multple crews/multiple ships concept. To put it in simple language, you will go to Alameda for your three years and leave with 3 different ball caps and spend the same amount of time away from homeport as your buddy who goes to Seattle and spends three years sailing with only one ball cap.
